This wasn't just a simple story on a mystery, this film had multiple elements to it that questioned a character's loyalty and morality. Throughout the film contained many scenes that presented a theme of trust. Between Whit and Jeff's conversation, Jeff speaks a lot about Whit's ability to trust anyone. The movie it self starts out with dishonesty when Jeff conceals his true identity and past with his current beau Ann. The biggest moment of deception is when Jeff is consistently being fooled by Kathie. Kathie’s devious nature makes her a prime example of a Femme Fatale, a conniving, witty woman who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Moments like this are delivered by the film’s score and diverse facial expressions. In situations when others would express panic, Kathie always maintains poised and unfazed. This eloquent mannerism is enough to fascinate Jeff as well as the audience because it shows that her decisions are not acted on impulse. The frame is perfectly angled on Kathie from ground view to give a strong and bold presence. As the camera pans in slowly on the focus of the frame, it delivers a sense of suspense and danger. He leaves his bad boy life and unmentionable secrets behind him and works towards a new life with his love Ann and job working as a mechanic. As the film is carried out, Jeff’s better life takes a turn when he encounters Kathie. Jeff is faced with important decisions between right and wrong and these moments becomes crucial for his character. It defines his true nature. When the bond between him and Kathie begins to form, Jeff chooses to take the riskier road regardless of the consequences. At any moment, Jeff could turn back home to be with Ann but he doesn’t. His choices further solidify that his impulsive behavior is very much alive. Similarly, in Throne of Blood, Taketoki is manipulated by his devious wife and transforms from a noble warrior to a monstrosity of a killer. His transformation is slow but by the final scene is when all the madness comes pouring through. Aggravated sound effects and bursts of light really emphasizes this down spiral of insanity. Taketoki’s strive for power ultimately destroys him. In Dead Man, William Blake exhibits an incredible transformation from gentle and courteous to a wild western native man. One of the most dramatic themes of this film is the ability for fate to take control of an individuals life and alter what they once thought their life was intended to be.
