The kindest person that I know in my life would be my grandmother. My grandmother is considered the kindest person to me for a lot of reasons, and this paper will tell you why I think my grandma is the kindest person I know. Evelyn J. Butts is my wonderful, kind, caring, and let’s not forget loving grandmother. She has helped raise me, as well as my other siblings all of our life. My grandmother almost feels like a second mother to me. I don’t even call her grandma; I call her “Ma”. My grandma is always there for me whenever I need her, for any and everything. I like going over her house whenever I can just because I know it’ll be good vibes all around me. I also like it when she picks me up from school because, while she’s taking me home we have some time to talk to her and see her during the weekdays. To tell you a little more about my grandma, she is a Jehovah’s Witness and she has been for 38 years. She has 7 kids, and 5 grandkids. She lives with her 2 daughters, and she has been married once before but, sadly he passed away, but overall in my eyes my grandmother is the best grandmother anyone could ask for. In conclusion, as I stated before my grandma is the kindest person I know and she is a wonderful, strong, independent woman with a beautiful heart, and I am just glad that I can say she is my grandmother. I don’t know what my life would be like without her.

I am an eyewitness to the love and sacrifice exuded by her on the day to day through her unconditional willingness to help others and her desire to spend quality time with them. This is my attempt to remember her while she is still with us. This is the story of my grandmother, Mary Kay Amodo.…

The concept of success is something that society has been obsessed with since the beginning of civilization. People constantly question: What defines success? What separates the successful from the normal? However, the most important question regarding the topic is: What does one need to become successful? Most consider the buildings blocks for success to be plenty of hard work, intrinsic skills, and a small amount of luck. However, some believe that success is not this simple, and that a number of key factors play into the success of an individual. One such person is Malcolm Gladwell. In his book, Outliers, Gladwell makes a conclusion about success contrary to the usual belief, claiming that success is more reliant on specific circumstances,…

The mentioning of the word “grandmother”, is often followed by an image of a sweet elderly woman who will often encourage, support, and model what type of person another should strive to be. In cases like the one presented by Flannery O’Connor in his short story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” the grandmother possesses qualities that are rarely associated with grandmas. Most fictional characters have flaws and redeemable qualities to parallel living people and the “grandmother” in the story follows the same trend by having some redeemable qualities because she is dishonest, manipulative and selfish.…

Conversely, after examining her persona in the text, I do not feel that she is “good” under my standards. Represented by her thoughts and actions, I feel that she is manipulative and self-centered. In several instances throughout the story’s timeline, the grandmother manipulated the people around her to achieve individual gain. In the beginning, she tried to convince her son to change the destination of family road trip. Although everyone else wanted to visit Florida, the grandmother wished to travel to Tennessee in order to connect with some of her old acquaintances. In order to accomplish this, she kept making excuses as to why the family should go to Tennessee instead. Secondly, the grandmother lied about the features of an old house in order to influence the children to pressure their father into making a detour. The story states: “she [the grandmother] knew that Bailey would not be willing to lose any time looking at an old house, but the more she talked about it, the more she wanted to see it once again and find out if the little twin arbors were still standing. "There was a secret panel in…

To me, the definition of an outlier goes far beyond just someone that stands out in a crowd or has an extraordinary talent. An outlier is something that is situated away from or classed differently from a main or related body. In the novel Outliers, which was written by Malcolm Gladwell, he gives us many examples of outliers such as a genius who wasn’t as smart as everyone thought he was to a computer geek who had all the resources to make it big like Bill Gates. My example of an outlier is Lionel Messi. The characteristics that make Lionel Messi an outlier are his birthday, the environment he grew up in and his talent. All these characteristics not only make him an outlier but also a very successful athlete.…
