I) Introduction: introduce "Shutter Island" by Dennis Lehane as the novel and film, directed by Martin Scorsese A. thesis statement
II) Body Paragraph 1: summary of the novel and film and overall comparison B. opinion of the novel compared to the film and perhaps how they flow together or separately 1. In both, Shutter Island starts off as U.S. Marshals Teddy Daniel being requested to the island in order to recapture the escaped criminally insane, Rachel Solando, but he had also requested to be transfered for personal reasons.
II) Body Paragraph 2: first major difference of the movie and novel A. movie failed to inform viewers of what was "the law of 4" note Teddy had found 1. movie had the note only include "The law of 4, who is 67?" 2. the novel had a extended note which was "The Law of 4, I Am 47, +You are 3, We are 4, But, Who is 67?" this had led Teddy to the conclusion as to who was in the novel which was left out in the film B. in the novel "the law of 4" played a large role unlike the movie in which they did not include the full note
IV) Body Paragraph 3: second major difference A. the movie did not follow the exact settings of what was described in the novel, therefore the novel being much more descriptive 1. on the third page of novel it is described as a smaller island, unlike the movie which portrays it to be much larger 2. movie setting has the island seem much larger, as if one can get lost without a map
V) Body Paragraph 4: third major difference A. the novel and film ended, leaving readers/viewers with endings which would be considered very different 1. the movie indicates Teddy eaving the viewers on the edge as if he is pretending to relapse and because he believes he should be punished for killing his wife for killing their children, he cannot live with the truth 2. the novel ends with Teddy questioning Chuck, "a place like this can make you wonder: is it

The characters had been very much different. From the novel and to the movie, they had not even included the character under the name of Reuven. As well as, Rivka was introduced at the beginning instead of when they had met her at the camp in the novel. As well as, in the movie, the rabbi spoke out much more than in the novel. In the novel, the rabbi faded out of the novel as it went on. The plot from the novel and the movie was very different too. In the novel, the people caught escaping were shot, yet in the movie they were hung. In the movie, they had a Seder in the camp yet in the novel, they did not. As well as, in the movie, they had put pellets into the chamber to kill people, yet they didn't do that in the novel. They had other smaller details included that were different, yet they did not have any impact on the story, such as how they had to dig instead of doing their special jobs like in the…

In this paper, I am going to be comparing and contrasting the movie version and the novel entitled “The Accidental Tourist.” First, when one begins to read the book, they will notice that the opening scene takes place in a car on a rainy day. During this pivotal scene Sarah Leary asks Macon if he remembered what he said to a comment Sarah had said. She said “’I said to you the other day, I said, ‘Macon, now that Ethan’s dead I sometimes wonder if there’s any point to life.’ Do you remember what you answered?’ ‘Well not offhand,’ Macon said. ‘You said, ‘Honey, to tell the truth, it never seemed to me there was all that much point to begin with.’ Those were your exact words.’” Then she later tells Macon she wants a divorce. But, when one watches the movie, they would be deceived in two ways. First, Macon, the main character, is flying in an airplane and a man named Lucas Loomis, who does not appear until much later in the book, is with him. Secondly, if you wait a little while, you would see that Sarah and Macon are at home when they have the conversation that leads to Sarah’s divorce announcement. When I saw that I was hoping this was no indication of how the rest of the movie was going to be. But it was.…
