Interesting views on urban society within Sydney during the 1980’s are conveyed through Claudia’s voice. Claudia Valentine’s voice is the hard-boiled, cynical detective voice typical of the Crime Fiction genre. She has ‘street-smarts’ and ‘street cred’ and can be seen when she says: “They looked like cops. Or hired muscle.” Her use of such terminology gives us insight into how she operates and how the society she lives in would be perceived. Her views of Sydney are contrasted with either a negative or positive attitude, or sometimes both. “The bridge, instead of linking the two sides of the harbour, was for me a psychological barrier.” This quote, followed by a brief comparison of the beaches of Manly and Bondi, tells us of how her views on separate cities are as she says: “Going across the bridge was like traveling to another country.”…

The suburban house, as the film's setting and sphere of action, is extraordinary partly because it is ‘next-door' to an airport. The odd layout of this backyard is underlined because their suburb meets the kind of architectural cast-offs often found at the margins of big cities. This mix of the humble backyard with the international vectors of travel, tourism and international trade plays out in the film's narrative which connects the domestic and the distant. The Castle displays many locations and landscapes easily identified as being unique of Australia- The ‘Aussy' barbeque and patio setup, greyhound racetrack and poolroom, just to name a few. The neighbours of the Kerrigan's are a symbol representing the multicultural diversity of Australia.…

AUSTRALIAS DAY: 1942 In Memoriam W.J. Miles IF EVER it were time for the dead to ride then surely that time is now: From the Leeuwin’s cliffs to the roar of Sydney-side, from Wyndham to the Howe call up your ghosts, Australia, call up your many dead; your Kelly and your Lalor and the shirted men they led; call up your brave, your Stuart, your Wentworth, your Benelong, your men who dared Hashemy with its bitter slavish wrong. Call up your quietened singers from the silence of the grave, who sang your latent spirit to the complaining wave. Call up your myths and your legends, your men of song and tale, men from the Snowy, the Centre, and lakes where Bunyips wail, your seekers, your finders, your fighters, your men who with Clancy ride, Lawson’s men from the western creeks, and a thousand more beside.…

When it comes to Sydney, most people's impressions of Sydney are magnificent scenery and natural features. I also learn something after seeing the "Three Sisters' Rock in Blue Mountain. I feel quite sad when knowing that these three poor sisters were transformed into rocks by a wizard in order to escape from the war, however, the wizard was dead in the war. That is, the three poor girls would become rocks forever. I think that we should show our love to our family and friends all the time, because you don't know what will happen in the future. You can also enjoy the panorama by walking on air 268 meters above stunning Sydney, with the city streets directly beneath your feet. Look down through the glass floor viewing platform for a bird's-eye perspective of the bustling city below, and you will be amazed at the spectacle of Sydney Tower beneath your feet. What a impressive sight it is!…
