In this world of science and technology, society has made much progress in the last 20 years. The mobile phone is a good example of this change. Mobile phones are now the most widespread communication device replacing fixed line phones, and their number is increasing dramatically every year. This essay will outline the major changes in mobile phone design and network availability during the last two decades and the advantages of this development. In addition, this essay will discuss the disadvantages of using mobile phones.
Firstly, the developments have improved phone shape, size and functions to make mobiles more useful. They have become better and more attractive in shape and their smaller size has enhanced their portability. Moreover, advances in software have made them more useful for different purposes. Modern mobile phones have cameras that provide the ability to capture memorable moments in our lives and built in mp3 players have overcome the need for radio or Walkman players. The storage capacity on a new mobile phone is huge compared to the past and this allows us to save thousands of contact numbers, pictures, videos, songs or even important business documents. Text messaging services are also very useful and a cheap way to convey one’s message. Furthermore, advanced mobiles have access to the internet, making us able to use a mobile phone as a laptop. Now, even during our journey, we can check our e-mails and search Google maps. In short, new mobile phones provide new opportunities for the wireless users instead of just making calls (Slaght et al 2006).
Secondly, mobile phone networks have improved radically over the last 20 years. We can make a call to our family members or the friends any time we want and their vast coverage of reception makes it possible to be in contact almost anywhere in the
