The natural tendency for a foster child to feel withdrawn can grow even larger with each experience they have when another person withdraws. Family members might withdraw due to the increased irritability and agressiveness they feel in the home around the foster child. Without other training, withdrawl seems to be the easiest way to avoid the drama. Over attachment is when one always has to be around or holding on to a hand of a caregiver or someone close to them. This can lead to the child crying when this person leaves. Crying can be upsetting to parents, siblings, and extended family. These situations add additional stress to the entire world of the foster child. Over attachment usually causes jealously among the others in the home. Jealousy can cause the siblings to make mean comments or be agressive to the foster child. Instead of solving the situation, theses types of responses can drive the foster child to even deeper expression of attachment.
