Overcoming Adversity In My Life
Lately, I have been constantly facing adversity. I pray to the lord that I remain strong thought it all. Since I turned 20, things have been very rough for me and I do not understand why, or what I did to deserve these things. I really try my best to be a good person with good morals and I know that I am not perfect. Things have been drug over my head constantly..things that I do not have control over. I want to stay strong because i know that brighter days are coming but it is very difficult. I relieved some stress in the gym today and I will keep working out and staying close with God. Things will fall into place. I love all my friends (The few that are my real friends, not associates) and people that have helped me with anything. ONE LOVE.

When these moments in life hit, people see them as barriers, unable to be broken down. However, there is a point when an individual demonstrates their true qualities or characteristics, which would not have come to light unless an adversity had risen. Adversities can allow individuals to view the world in a new perspective due in part to their hard work, though this is not always the case as the pressure may become to intense for some individuals to conquer.…

Kevin Conroy once said, “Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” Dictionary.com defines adversity as “adversity n. adverse or unfavorable fortune or fate; a condition marked by misfortune, calamity, or distress.” Adversity is something that everyone will experience at some point in his life; however, some people face greater adversities than others. Morrie Schwartz and Elie Wiesel are two men that faced two of the greatest adversities that this world knows. Elie is a survivor of Adolf Hitler’s destruction of the Holocaust, and Morrie Schwartz was a simple man who lost a battle to Lou Gehrig’s disease, or ALS. Both of these men’s lives have been captured in best-selling…

Throughout every person’s life, there always stands an obstacle to overcome. While some choose to retreat from the challenge, others choose to surmount whatever it is holding them back. I have always believed that if someone wants something bad enough, they will work however hard they have to in order to achieve their goal. I can honestly admit that through years of determination, research, and self-motivation I have been able to prevail over my adversity: stuttering. Many people try to mask this speech impediment with flowery terminology such as “blocking”, “bumpy speech”, or “mild disfluency.” To a stutterer, no matter how specialists or professionals refer to this disability, it is far from trouble-free. Each and every day I deal with stuttering with the conviction and determination to speak well.…

Everyone in their lives overcomes adversity whether it is from work or disability it is never easy. About a year ago, I faced my own near fatal struggle with adversity. Life had become more of a burden than an adventure and nothing seemed to be looking up. Things progressed and events occurred that produced life changing results. After nearly losing my life I realized that things needed to change, mindsets needed to change. The one thing that had not changed was my stubbornness.…

Everyone in the world has had to overcome some kind of obstacles in their life. Obstacles can be a very small or even a very big thing in our everyday lives. For example, an obstacle could be if you have enough money to buy milk to having to overcome being homeless and struggling to get through life all alone. People typically learn from their own life obstacles or maybe even from reading about someone else’s obstacles in their life. Nobody wants to have to overcome any obstacles or have any troubles in our lives but it is just a part of making our lives better from what it was like before. I have learned about many obstacles from many books and movies such as: The Mighty, Of Mice and Men, and A Child Called “It”.…

My journey of overcoming adversity began at the age of 7 with a routine visit to the doctor. Little did I know, that day would change my life forever. The doctors suggested checking my glucose levels, and with a single finger prick, the machine displayed ominous letters: 'HHH' (immensely high). I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. What followed was an extremely grueling two weeks of treatment and recovery.…

In our daily lives, too often do we judge others based solely on their appearance; whether it's by the clothes that a person is wearing or even the color of their skin. The essence of Amy Tan's Mother Tongue and Peter Marin's Helping and Hating the Homeless is that in society, we are quick to judge others, categorizing them based upon pre-assumptions which are hardly true. Chinese American novelist Amy Tan shares her most intimate experiences of growing up with a mother who did not speak fluent English, and how she witnessed first hand how this shaped the treatment her mother received from others. Marin discusses the contradictory views that society has on the homeless, immediately dismissing the negative stereotypes about the homeless. These negative stereotypes are portrayed by the American society, as well as the media, who consistently portray people as they wish.…

No one is exempt from turmoil during their lives, and I can honestly say that I am thankful for the adversities and challenges which have crossed my path because they have strengthened my character and brought forth certain virtues I might otherwise never have known. There are various personal issues with which I have struggled and I have no doubt as to where their foundations lie. At a very early age I was taken away from my parents and brothers and put into foster care. It wasn’t until I was four (4) that I was finally and thankfully adopted. When my parents adopted me I had not even learned to walk. Later on in life my first husband had an affair with my best friend from high school during our marriage leaving me to divorce with a disabled child at a young age who is now gone. Over 20 years later I remarried but when I was recalled back to active duty (Navy Reserves), he went back to his parents house in Florida, and sure enough, he gave away my puppies and moved in with a woman he met at work while we were still married and I deployed to Afghanistan, leaving me to divorce again but now older. I have on occasion found myself challenged to the maximum of my capabilities because of my high academic aspirations, my extra curricular activities, my volunteer work at the American Legion in Gaston County, my love for writing poetry, and both my full-time job and my military career. But my strong belief…

The sound of breaking glass and angry screams filled second story of my suburban home. Terrified, I fetched my siblings and went outside to escape from the hostility, if only for a few minutes. After some time, I heard the front door slam and my father’s truck zoom down the street. Later, I went upstairs and found my mother weeping; I have seen no one so sad. I saw the remains of what had been elegant wedding photos in pieces on the floor and sensed heartbreak in the air. At the time, I was only an eighth grader, but I would mature considerably in the coming months. My parents had argued, as they often did, due to my father’s alcoholism. My mother had given him two options: us or the booze. He chose the latter and my life has been forever changed.…

Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work your way around it.” -Michael Jordan.
