I believe this to be true because most people learn from mistakes. These mistakes help people grow as a person. There are many resources that can help people overcome adversity. A very influential person that went through many obstacles and challenges is Muhammad Ali. One of the biggest obstacles he went through was against the U.S government. Muhammad was drafted to be in the army and refused. He refused because he didn't think it was right to kill people. When he stood up to the government they took away his medals, championships, and was not allowed to box for 3 ½ years. After a long battle with himself and with people that didnt believe in him he rose above his own adversity and became one of the most influential boxers in the world. Till this day Muhammad Ali continues to rise above his obstacles. He is now battling one of the biggest battles he's ever faced, Parkinson's Disease.Even with this disease he still chooses to live his life to the best of his abilities. His life is a perfect example of the importance of overcoming challenges that people face …show more content…

When i first started soccer i thought to myself “ i'm never going to be good at this.” Even though the work was extremely difficult i learned later on as the years went by soccer is my passion. I always wanted to be better than i did in the previous game and that's what pushed me to overcome any obstacle that came my way. My will to overcome my challenges has been greater than my fear of failing. Other difficulties i have faced is school. School has never came easy to me. I've always had to work extra hard than all the other kids. Someone important to education world that has overcome many obstacles in her lifetime is a young girl named Malala Yousafzai. “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” What the Roman poet Horace was saying was that when there is an obstacle in our way, our true colors will radiate. I could not agree more. When we as human beings feel passionate about achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, maybe a new trait that we did not know we possessed, when we reach new heights we did not know we could push ourselves towards. Challenges are similar to tests. Challenges are faced every day, but how we respond to them determines how strong we really are. Prime examples are superheroes and students that move dramatically.…

Since she was a young girl, Malala has always expressed herself and made sure her voice was heard for all young girls to be educated in her country. The Taliban came into her village, took it over and decided that they didn’t want girls going to school and getting their education anymore. So, Malala decided to speak up for girl’s education making it aware of what the Taliban was doing. After she started speaking to local magazines and journals, Malala began to get worldwide attention and so did the Taliban. However, the negative attention the Taliban was getting made Malala number one on their target list. When she was fifteen years old, she was on her school bus with other young school girls when two men affiliated with the Taliban jumped aboard the bus looking for Malala. After they realized the identity of Malala, one man raised a Colt 45 to her head and fired three shots. One of the three shots went through her left eye socket and came out under her left shoulder. She could have easily lost her left eye or could’ve had brain damage, but she didn’t. From this traumatic and traumatizing shooting, Malala had to get a portion of her skull removed to treat her swelling brain. She required multiple surgeries to repair a facial nerve which caused the left side of her face to be paralyzed. In her newly released book, I am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for…

He inspired so many people to do what they want. Since he was an african american boxer, it showed just because of what your skin color was you could truly be anything that you wanted to be. He grew up with parents who fought a lot and a dad who was often drunk but through all of that he was able to become what he dreamed of. Many people who fight for civil rights can give speeches, protest, fight in court, but I think truly becoming what you want and not letting anybody bring you down shows a lot more. After he came out of jail because he denied service in the military he went back to fighting because it was what he loved. Even as he became older and the civil right movements stopped he still continued to box ("The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American…

Adversities always occur throughout a person’s life, and they are a positive input on people’s lives. Adversity actually creates the best runners, as a tribe in Africa uses special tactics to always win marathons. They go through an initiation that if they don’t endure they are labeled a coward. The adversity creates an “enormous social pressure placed on your ability to endure pain is actually great training for a sport like running where "pushing through pain" is so fundamental to success”(Warner). Though it may seem like a negative experience at the time, it turns out to be beneficial in the long run. An example was that one of the runners from this tribe won a marathon while he had a gallbladder infection, which are extremely painful. He was able to make it through the marathon because he had experienced much more pain than what he was enduring right then back at home. Adversities are a positive input on a person’s life and they can use the experience from them for future problems. Adversities are positive in To Kill a Mockingbird, as well. Since Scout learned about how to treat people, it helped her come of age successfully. As said in the famous quote from To Kill a Mockingbird about crawling into someone else’s skin and walking around in it, Atticus tells Scout an important lesson about how to see the world maturely. The lesson Atticus taught her, helped her think more maturely about Tom Robinson’s situation, and to not have prejudice. Her struggle with Walter Cunningham helped her learn a lesson that she used later, and helped her come-of-age. Adversity was a positive impact on Scout Finch’s…

Adversity is either chosen or brought upon someone; either way, the obstacle is either overcome or not. No matter wealth, age, or location, all people face adversity for it is synonymous with life. Life is the struggle for survival and success and order, while adversity is the representation of disorder and failure. Without either, it would be impossible to differentiate one’s achievements from one’s failures. Overcoming adversity is the basis of all great, successful people similarly to how concrete and steel is the foundation of all astonishing architectural structures.…

Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…

While education is known for its abilities to stimulate intellectual development, consequently, it nurtures resilience in the process. Resilience isn’t a trait that’s been innately programmed and ready to use when necessary, but rather a skill that is developed and built through experience especially when an individual suffers adversity. It’s a quality admired by many for its adaptability and elasticity when faced with failure, however, it isn’t a quality that many possess. For instance, Malala Yousafzai is an excellent example of resilience. In I Am Malala, Malala says “I don’t want to be thought of as the ‘girl who was shot by the Taliban’ but the ‘girl who fought for education. This is the cause to which I want to devote my life” (Yousafzai…
