Feng shui is “creating an environment that has the best energy to support the specific activity, or activities intended for that space” (Tchi). Decorating with feng shui is a four-step process. According to the feng shui process every room must be considered separately because there are different energies for every room. To begin, clear out the old energy from each room; by removing all furniture and décor objects. So that the feng shui principles can come in to play, starting with defining the bagua- “the energy map of the home” (Tchi). Second is to pick the color scheme. Third is to buy feng shui products (furniture, paintings, etc.). Lastly, would be to position your decor items so that the energy is strong. Using the feng shui principles will bring great energy into a home.
After the rooms are cleared of all old energies, it’s time to start the feng shui principles. Start with defining the bagua, “meaning the feng shui energy map of your space that shows you which areas of your home are connected to specific areas of your life, usually containing 8 areas, depending on your home” (Tchi). Bring in a compass to help with the bagua. The compass will show you the locations by giving angle numbers which will define the different feng shui areas in your home. Each location has a specific feng shui element. After getting the floor plans from the compass, the bagua can be defined easily. ‘North being 337.5 to 22.5 degrees would have the feng shui element of Water. Northeast being 22.5 to 67.5 degrees would have the feng shui element of Earth. East being 67.5 to 112.5 degrees would have the feng shui element of Wood. Southeast being 112.5 to 157.5 degrees would have the feng shui element of Wood. South being 157.5 to 202.5 degrees would have the feng shui element of Fire. Southwest being 202.5 to 247.5 degrees would have the feng shui element of Earth. West being 247.5 to 292.5 degrees would have the feng shui element
