P-Aminophenol Synthesis Lab Report
p-Aminophenol was expected to be converted to p-iodophenol. However, the reaction was successful, although the percent yield is 8.92%. This percent yield has indications of possible sources of error, listed as follows:
• Hexane may not be effective as a solvent during the recrystallization of p-iodophenol. Ligroin could have been used instead.
• A small amount of product was remained from the separatory funnel once it was transferred to a pre-weighed beaker for filtration and recrystallization. This could lead to a lower percent yield obtained from this reaction.
• The amount of heat being put during the recrystallization process was not monitored carefully. The amount of the final product could have been included with hexane when they escaped

All the reagents and solvents used for synthesizing the title compound were of Analar grade (Merck) and were used as such without further purification. The 2-naphthol derived Mannich base 1-((4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)(phenyl)methyl)naphthalen-2-ol (MPN) was synthesized according to the general procedure described in the literatures [13, 14]. The 2-naphthol (4.33 g, 0.03 mol) was dissolved in 30ml of ethanol and it was mixed with…

TRANSCRIPTION: Transcription is the process of which DNA matches corresponding RNA bases, Transcription is located in the Nucleus, and the only type of RNA that is involved in Transcription is mRNA, and the purpose is so that the code can get out of the Nucleus, mRNA is also made through Transcription, It also takes information that doesn't directly make proteins but it helps makes codes for the production of proteins, DNA Transcription consist of 4 nucleotide bases, Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine. Transcription also unwinds the strand of DNA and the RNA comes in and matches then becomes a single strand. The only thing that changes during this process is the Thymine gets replaced with Uracil.…

The experiment began with 1.603g of 4-methycyclohexanol and resulted in a yield of 0.920g of product. Since the theoretical yield is 1.35g this leads to a percent yield by mass of 68.1% (see calculations). The boiling point of the product obtained was found to be 104.4°C which is higher than the expected 101-102°C (see table 1); this could also be due to the side reaction product whose boiling point is 108-112 °C (see table 1) causing the boiling point found experimentally to be a combination of the two products. The side reaction, however, should not affect the percent yield since both products have the same…

Acetophenetidin can be formed through two methods, Williamson ether synthesis and amide synthesis. By working in groups of two we were able to complete both methods of synthesis routes. The end result should be the synthesis of a similar product, by verification between the two individuals.…

Materials & Methods Synthesis Procedure of PDA@MT Polydopamine is synthesized through covalent polymerization similar to melanin biosynthesis, with DA oxidized to dopamine quinone, then further oxidized to DHI, which undergoes deprotonation and cross-linking via Michael addition to form PDA. A solution was prepared to synthesize PDA by mixing 90 mL of water, 40 mL of ethanol, and 3 mL of ammonia solution in a 300 mL beaker. After stirring for 30 minutes at 37°C, a solution of 500 mg of DA dissolved in 10 mL of water was added dropwise using a pipette while stirring at 400 rpm. The reaction was continued for 24 hours at 300 rpm, and the particle size was monitored by taking a sample at 12-24 hours and diluting it with water. The reaction product…

In this lab there were many sources of error that could have affect our experiment. One of this possible errors could have been using a wet or a beaker with another substance inside of it that would have other compounds or residue from other past experiments. This source of error would cause the ions in the solution to dissolve with different compounds and the percent yield would be affected by that. Additionally, leaving some water left behind in the solid product which would leave ions in the solid product and this would ultimately mess up test 1 and test 2 by reacting the wrong…

Oxidation was found for primary alcohol. When 6 drops of potassium dichromate and 1 drop of concentrated sulfuric acid were added to 1-pentanol, the color of 1-pentaol turned into dark green. In second experiment, precipitation was found when 6 drops of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine were added to both 5 drops of benzaldehyde and 5 drops of acetophenone. Based on these data, it is possible to find alcohol by oxidation and aldehyde by observing precipitation…

The primary function of the heart is to transport blood throughout the body, which delivers oxygen, nutrients and chemicals to the cells of the body to ensure their survival and proper function and to remove the cellular wastes. For the body to achieve this, it must maintain a certain blood pressure within the body to overcome gravity and orthostatic changes. If the body did not keep a certain pressure, distal cells and organs would not be able to receive a constant blood supply and cause a homeostatic imbalance. This experiment will show the possible changes in blood pressure due to gravity and orthostatic changes, but first, what is blood pressure and why is it important?…

The melting point of a compound is the temperature at which the solid is in equilibrium with its liquid. A solid compounds changes to a liquid when the molecules acquire enough energy to overcome the forces holding them together. A mixture melting point is useful in confirming and used to indentify an unknown compound, which we will be doing in this particular experiment.…

Softball, at times was called playground softbound ball, kitten ball, and many other names. As it grew the bases had to be 90 feet between each base; the pitcher has to be 50 feet away. The pitcher has 5 pitches to use to warm up and no more than that. In between innings will be 3 pitches. As the players are batting they will go in order as they have it on the sheet. The player steps into the batters box and tries to swing when the ball in coming at them. The umpire will call if that was a strike or a foul. If u get at least 4 fouls the umpire will tell you to take your free base. If u get 3 strikes then your out and the next batter is up to bat. One softball game is about 7 innings. In one game the time limit is 50 minutes.…
