One day, my friend Justin and I went to the bathroom. When we arrived, we encountered some older boys from P.S. 198, who were using very bad curse words and vandalizing the bathroom. This was very upsetting to me. I knew the words they were using were not allowed at school, and it really bothered me to hear them. Also, the boys from P.S. 198 were damaging the bathroom that we all had to share, which really disturbed me! I have always been taught to treat other people, as well as other people’s property, with respect.
But the worst part was when the older boys cursed at Justin. I could see by Justin’s reaction that they were really hurting his feelings. I was really troubled by this and could not stand by while they taunted my friend. I stood up to the older boys and I said, “Stop being mean to my friend!”.
After this, Justin and I returned to our classroom. We told our teacher about this incident and she went straight to the bathroom. She reported the boys who were causing the trouble to the principal. Justin and I confirmed the boys were the same ones from the bathroom, and they were all reprimanded. After this incident, a PTA member would sit outside to monitor the bathrooms. Also, the teachers from both school adopted an anti-bullying policy and taught all the students to stand up to bullying. Afterwards, there were no more instances of bullying the P.S. 77 students.
