P6) identify the range of procedures used in carrying out analysis in an industrial or commercial analytical laboratory.
1. General laboratory safety
Eye protection must be on; gloves and lab coats are required when working with chemical.
Sensible shoes are required when working in the lab.
Must be able to know the accident and safety equipment is kept
All or any accidents must be immediately be reported.
If any hazardous is spilt accidently on you directly flush or wash yourself with water for about 15minutes.
All concentrated acids and bases are always in the fume board in every lab.
Waste always stored in the lab
Liquid waste must all have secondary containment adequate for the full volume of waste.
Chemicals must all be properly be labelled and stored safety at all times. It should indicate in English what harm of chemical it is.
All liquid chemical cannot be stored above eye level.
2. Safety and waste handling doc:
Procedure:
The law necessitates that once the chemical is recognised to be hazardous chemical waste; it must remove the building within 90 days. It is illegal to dispose waste by evaporation, or dispose down in the sink into the sewer, or throwing it down the trash.
All facility must establish laboratory waste management programme for the laboratory they teach. All waste should be collected at the end of the day and each student should be responsible for their disposing of waste material to the appropriate container.
Department are encouraged to store chemicals reduce waste. The department of safety and risk management picks up waste chemical from individual laboratories.
All container must have paper label
Removal radioactive material, must be contacted by the radiation safety office
Removal of infectious and biological waste, including broken or intact hypodermic needle or syringe must be contacted by the department of safety and risk management.
Disposal all hazardous chemical down in the sink to the sewer is forbidden by the federal law.
-materials with pH <2 or >12.5 volatile organic compoundcyanide, sulphate, sulphide or grease.
All substance are forbidden.
Also forbidden are:
-solid or viscous substance in quantises or of such size capable of causing obstruction to the flow of the year
No circumstance should any laboratory or any chemical container ever be placed in the aluminium or glass recycling bin.
