I can relate to some of the ways you are feeling. What type of work does you?

BLANCA: I am a full time assistant director at a child care facility. However I feel like my hardiest job is being a mother of four and a wife to a man that barely knows I exist.
COUNSELOR: When this all this began?
BLANCA: In my opinion when I was 16 and we had our first child in high school. My husband automatically expected me to sacrifice and raise the children while he continued to live his life. I would not have minded if he would have let me went to school once he received his degree. But my degree never came.
COUNSELOR: where do you see your life/marriage in the next few years?
BLANCA: if things do not change and my husband does not start to be more aware of some of the things I need, I see us eventually ended our marriage and co-parenting. My life will continue and I will set both long term and short term goals until I meet them all.
COUNSELOR: how do your children fit into your life?
BLANCA: my children are my life and my motivation, they help me face and get through all the challenges I face on day to day bases. I have a child with a learning disability and all the other children pull together and help one

Similarly, Casandra’s brother in law gives her a hard time just because he likes her and doesn’t know how to express his desire for her. Although this is not explicitly stated in the story, the reader might wonder why might a brother in law get into fight with his sister in law over eating more than she should. Furthermore, the consequences of the lack of support or understanding from parents, teachers, or any other resources that are available for today’s youth as opposed to those who were coming of age in the 1960s is another aspect that the ambiguity of the endings attempts to demonstrate. Connie’s mother, for example, yells at her daughter without ever bothering to consider or at least understand what her daughter is going through. Her father is barely mentioned in the story, which suggests that he isn’t involved…

They practically became a family to one another during high school. Each girl had worked tirelessly to achieve their long term goals of completing high school and getting accepted into a college they wanted to go. Marisela and Yadira faced the brevity of the situation because they weren't able to apply to the same colleges Clara and Elissa were able to because they lacked legal status and weren’t able to get the same opportunities. It caused a huge hindrance with the other girls because they were able to apply anywhere they want, get scholarships while the other two weren't able to do any of that. All the hard work Marisela and Yadira put into school felt like it would never pay off. “And Marisela had a good reason to fear that she might lose her friends in the process, for the subject of college had already caused the four girls to suffer their first major rift.” (Thorpe 20) This kept them separated and because they faced huge divide with legality, driving, applying for a bank account, etc became melancholic for Yadira and Marisela because they had very limited options as to what they could do. “The slow accumulation of ordinary things that they could not do became painful for the girls who lacked legal status to endure, especially given that their legal friends were able to accomplish basic tasks without difficulties. But nothing was more painful than the subject of college” (Thorpe 25). Legality had set in ways they…

Ashley was born in North Carolina. She was born to a seventeen-year-old single mom. According to her, two days compete for the worst day in her life: the first is the day she was taken from her mother; the second is the day she arrived at the Moss´ foster home four years later. The day she was taken from her mother, she had left South Carolina bound for Florida with her mother, her mother´s husband, and her younger brother Luke. She was only three years old. Before she was taken from her mother, she was an intuitive two-year-old, soaking up language and behaviors from a crew of rowdy adolescents who were trying on adult attitudes and habits. She used to get attention by acting grown up. Her mother used to spend her time hanging out with friends, while her sister was taking care of Ashley. Freedom is defined as living life how one choses to live without any undue restraints or restrictions. We spend most of our lives too busy to have any free time, busy earning money to use on our free time, and busy not having enough time to rest after a long day of work. Working at a job I hated showed me how much I miss my Freedom to do what, I want when I want, however I want. Be with the people who I want to be with. Relax and enjoy life to the fullest. When people ask what I do for my job, I try to think of a word that fully explains it. I consider myself a handyman; this is because I do all kinds of different jobs. One day, I might be changing the light bulbs, and the next I could be hauling concrete in ninety degree weather. Even though my job is difficult, it teaches me to work hard and how it feels to earn money. Every cent I earn, was fought for. I was battling with myself to keep going.…
