PHBC: A Formal Analysis
How Rainer wrote is applied to the context of PHBC in many ways. It seems PHBC pastor’s preaching and the friendliness of the greeters are reasons the unchurched, consider joining. It is noticed the leadership, staff, and congregants are the reasons the unchurched leave. The pastor is not a “superman pastor” (Rainer 2001, 66), however he is a good preacher (with conviction) and has good personal-skills. Regrettably, the unchurched are not realized by him. There is a failure to connect with the unchurched outside of the pulpit. Nevertheless, evidence shows his diligence in the study of the Word, sermon preparation, and dependence on leadership. Fortunately, there are ongoing training-seminars in leadership and interpersonal skills covering importance
of friendliness (Rainer 2001, 96-97), which are critical issues at PHBC (Rainer 2001, 68).
The first impression of the unchurched in regards to how well they were received by the greeters is taken in consideration, at PHBC. The greeters, from the “Welcome” Ministry are taught how vital their roles are, due to the lasting impression that the unchurched are left with (Rainer 2001, 102-3). The “New Members Orientation” Ministry is in place to give continual attention and guidance towards Christ. Excellence is strived (Rainer 2001, 105-6).
