Of the 23 million, around 20 million are students of public schools while the rest, about 3 million, are enrolled in private schools. With the recent implementation last June 4, 2012 of the K-12 educational system, this number will increase exponentially in the years to come. term of our essential instruction program puts Filipinos who are intrigued to either work or concentrate abroad off guard. This is on account of different nations see our 10-year program as inadequate, which at that point, makes Filipino graduates not be considered as experts abroad (Velasco, 2012). Given all these supporting realities, there is without a doubt a need to move forward the nature of essential instruction by improving it and by extending the fundamental education cycle (Velasco, 2012). Besides, as displayed in the article of Velasco (2012) identified with An Introduction on the new K-12 Philippine Educational programs, President Benigno S. Aquino reported: "We have to add two years to our essential instruction. The individuals who can bear the cost of pay up to fourteen years of tutoring before college. Accordingly, their youngsters are getting into the best colleges and the best employments after graduation. He said that he need no less than 12 years for our state funded school kids to give them an even possibility at succeeding. "In accordance with this, the 1987 Philippine Constitution expresses that, "The State might build up, keep up, and bolster a total, sufficient, and coordinated arrangement of instruction pertinent to the necessities of the general population and the general public." Such order offers equity to the fundamental privileges of each Filipino tyke: the privilege to quality instruction and the privilege to a quality life. One of the major reforms in our country’s educational system is Republic Act 10157, otherwise known as “The Kindergarten Education Law” or the K to12 (K+12). This Law made the Kindergarten compulsory and mandatory entry to basic education. This Law was initiated by the Aquino administration in order to address the perceived decreasing quality of education in the country, and to meet the international standard regarding the number of years in basic education. This program will require all incoming students to enroll into two more years of basic education. The K+12 System will include the Universal kindergarten, 6 years of elementary, 4 years of junior high school with an additional 2 years for senior high school. The program is implemented and formulated along with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The current k-12 model that had been implemented in the country is an educational landscape for basic and secondary system patterned after the United States, Canada and some parts of Australia had done it. According to Patricia Velasco’s article, the K- 12 Curriculum envisions “holistically developed learners with 21st century skills” (DepEd Primer, 2011). This further means that every student would have an understanding of the world around him and a passion for life-long learning while addressing every student’s basic learning needs: “learning to learn, the acquisition of numeracy, literacy, and scientific and technological knowledge applied to daily life” (p.6). The main objective of the K to 12 curriculum is to achieve the DepEd’s goal of eradicating illiteracy rate in the country. “No child is left behind.” (source). Every Filipino has the right to receive quality education in order to become an asset in all dimensions, competent, efficient, effective and productive citizen leading to a decent and…

One of the factors that contributed to the difficulty of solving national issues in the Philippines (today) is the absence of nationalism and patriotism in the hearts and minds of the Filipino youth. According to Benedict Andersen in a thesis presented by April Herrera and Jayvee Robias (2010), nationalism is on the verge of crossing its boundaries and it is not only confined to the nation state alone. Unfortunately, the Filipinos especially the youth today do not know the significance of nationalism and patriotism to the country. The best way for the Filipino youth to trigger their nationalistic consciousness is through educating them by imparting Philippines’ heritage to all aspects of learning. A speech by Leticia Constantino in Education Forum Symposium (1985) promotes that educating the Filipino youth about the history of the Philippines will serve as a realization for the youth to understand the means of being true Filipinos – Filipinos who will serve for the Philippines and for the countrymen. Once the Filipino youth became aware about the events that are continuously happening in the Philippines, the youth will start to get themselves active and involve in making advocacies and projects that can create a change for the betterment of the country.…

The Philippine Educational System is having some difficulties in resolving the different issues regarding the quality of education that we have today. Because of this, ,His Excellency Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino our 14th President prioritized the upgrading of the educational system in our country. To give the Filipino people a good quality of education and for the Filipinos to be more globally competitive. One of his agenda is the K-12 PROGRAM wherein 2 more years are added in secondary level which is called “Senior Highschool” , one of the objective of this program is to prepare the student in entering the tertiary level and so that their skills be developed as they are preparing themselves to enter to a new chapter of their lives. With this 10-point agenda that is being implemented by our president we can expect a more progressive, ideal and competitive individual that will be of great help in the future. It is very inspiring to know that the government never stop thinking on how to upgrade the educational system in our country. This time, we know that every Filipino has no right to say that I did not go to school because of poverty because with the programs of Pnoy being poor is not an excuse or a hindrance in going to school and get a college degree, It is now our own will if we want to have a bright future. As the saying goes “ We make our own destiny”.…
