Pain-Personal Narrative
When I was in middle school, I constantly got hurt but that never stopped me from trying. I always kept on going; I wanted to try harder even if I got hurt. I never gave up. People always told me that I couldn’t do it or you should stop doing what you’re doing, but I never listened because I believed that I could accomplish what I wanted. I have a reputation of always getting hurt, no matter what. During soccer practice, my teammates and I played against each other because it was part of our practice. While we were playing, I had the ball and one of the players from the other team was trying to take the ball away from me. When this was happening, she stepped on my foot in between the skin and the nail with her cleats. Even though I was injured, I kept playing, but I didn’t realize that if I continued to play, it would make my injury worse. As I continued to play, I kicked a high ball, …show more content…
Now, the story that I’m about to tell you isn’t going to be the same as the other one. It’s completely different, but it does involve me getting hurt. When it came to our last game, I was the goalie when I’m normally in defense, but I was a goalie because our goalie sucked; she couldn’t block the ball and she wouldn’t put herself out there, but I did. As the player from the other team came running to me with the ball, I was ready to block it. When she got closer, I ran up to it and caught it, but as I was catching it, I didn’t know she was going to kick it. When I was on the ground holding the ball, she made the kick, but instead of kicking the ball, she kicked my nose with the bottom part of her cleat. As I was groaning in pain, I let go of the ball and she scored. Although she made a goal, it didn’t count because she kicked the ball while I had it in my arms when she’s not supposed to. The referee wanted me to sit out because I got kicked pretty bad, but I wanted to keep playing because I didn’t want to let my team down; I was their only

Since we all know this pain, there’s nothing we can do but feel guilty when we’re on the defensive side and step on someone else. You apologize, get cursed out, and go on with the game. It’s even worse when there happens to be a goalkeeper in front of you as you stretch your foot out to try to reach a perfect lob. A goalkeeper actually had a major injury about 2 years back. David Zibung reached out for a ball and the striker accidentally stepped on his face while the goalie was still lying on the ground.…

Softball isn’t just a sport, it’s a passion. Last year, in a softball game, I tripped and cause us to get all three outs. My team, as well as my coach, was very upset. As a consequence, I sat the next two innings out. Sitting alone and thinking about how my mistake could cost us the game, I felt as though I needed to prove to my team that I didn’t mean to and that I could help get the game back. I finally convinced my coach to let me back in the game. An inning had gone by I still hadn’t proven myself. I was getting nervous. Bottom of the ninth, my chance came. Playing shortstop, a ground ball was headed straight for me. I caught it, and threw it to first. First then through it to third, and I tagged the runner coming from second base. A triple play! We were three points ahead and had won the game. I had such a feeling of self-accomplishment and pride. I had proven to the team that I was a…

A few hours later when I went to the hospital, I discovered that I had torn my Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Initially, I did not know what to expect from the situation, but I came to realize how much it would affect my life. The ACL functions as a ligament that connects the tibia and the femur. It provides stability in the knee, and with this injury, I could not participate in competitive soccer for 10 months. To undergo this painful experience at such a young age is extremely difficult; however, I chose to embrace the situation rather than let it destroy me. I could no longer play the sport I loved, but I could not change anything about that; I could only control my attitude in this predicament. I went above and beyond at every physical therapy appointment, no matter how strenuous/painful the workouts were. Times frequently came…

As a defender I’ve learned when the perfect time to attack the ball is. The girl was running onto what we call a “through ball”. It was a fifty, fifty ball. We both came in on the ball hard and fearless. It all happened so fast. We both hit the ball at the same time, my foot on one side and hers on the other. Next thing I knew I was looking at the night sky with the bottom part of my left leg pointed out. Almost as in a “L” shape. The pain hit right away. I remember my reaction was immediately tears. All I wanted to do was try and move it, but I…

In the course of my life, I have had quite a few scars. One physical scar was when I tripped, and landed on a rock, and cut my forehead. But the most memorable, was when I was eight years old, I was hurt when I accidentally landed on a table after being hit by a pillow. As a result, I had a wide open cut on the top of my head near my forehead from the landing. I was scarred for life. This was my second scar after I had the former at an earlier age.…

My mother, sister, and I were driving down Highway 124 on a hot July day when my mom screamed and slammed on the breaks. Fear rushed through our bodies. Outside the car window, a short young African American man was launched into the air. As he came down, a loud boom sounded as his body helplessly rolled off the hood of the faint green Toyota Corolla in front of us. The man lay motionless in the road while we waited for what seemed like hours for the driver to exit the car. His red shirt and gym shorts were ripped. The driver of the opposing car threw the vehicle in reverse in a spasmodic action in an attempt to end the man’s life. The injured man made an effort to crawl onto the Wendy’s sidewalk, forcing his body up on the curb to evade the car. The driver drove up onto the curb and blew its tire, just barely missing the wounded man. Realizing the driver would stop at nothing, my mother drove her white suburban in front of the car, blocking the violent perpetrator from doing any further damage.…

Through all the broken bones I had over the years from jumping and diving I never once complained, I always aimed to finish. ‘’No one was going to wear my gloves!’’ I thought. My injury’s started with a broken arm. It happened at a practice but I brushed it off and was thrilled to play at Soccer Park the next day. When the ball hit my hand I would feel like screaming but I had no substitute and didn’t want to let my teammates down. I wrapped my arm and hoped for the best. The most recent, dramatic injury of my life was a shattered sesamoid. I was playing in the 1st day of a tournament when a girl stomped powerfully on the bottom of my foot. I continued to play although I knew something was wrong. The pain grew every second, I looked down to see the bottom of my cleat was shattered. I could barely move my toes but I didn’t give up. I played the 2nd day and the following week. Two weeks later my…

Two years ago, a soccer ball was blasted into the side of my head and knocked me to the ground. It left me with a concussion that not only took me out of soccer for six months, but also affected my day to day life. For months, it made me nauseous to even jog around the block or walk down a crowded hallway. I was in physical therapy, vision therapy and on a special learning plan at school. Even though the blow to my head could have altered my life completely, I pleaded with my parents to let me continue my soccer career. It took two more minor concussions to make me realize it was not safe for me to play anymore. Looking back on my time playing soccer, I question why I kept playing. Why did I put the sport and my team ahead of my own health?…

While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…

Every human struggles everyone has hardship. When I was young I began to notice that maybe it is hard to understand what other people struggle with. The start of a mundane life began as usual a bus ride to school, but today something else happened a flash of yellow a soundless luxury sports car zoomed bass by a Lamborghini. As the car passed by everyone looked at it with amazement as the never seen a car pass from this part of the street. I began to wonder when will I get one with imaginary job I will live the high life. The bus hits a bump on the road I am begging to rationalize who much work will it take to achieve greatness to struggle to overcome adversity.…

I have never had played sports before and regret not doing so. Sure yeah i played soccer or football in middle school for fun, but i never really understand it. What made me want to play football was I wanted to be like my older brother and play football. I actual was quite similar to him when he played. I played freshman football in the same school as he did his freshman year. Throughout the year playing football I learn a lot I went to practice everyday like I’m suppose to and will admit I was scared the first practice with football pads. The first thing we did was a hit and wrap drill. I went in as the offensive player and all I had to do was run at an angle and let the defender hit me. So I was in my stance getting ready to run or getting ready to get hit I was looking at the defender and of course didn’t think he would hit hard due to how short he was so it made me less nervous. I ran on go and then I knew it I got hit and it was so painful I did not think that it would have hurt so much. After the impact I had tears I was hiding it so no one can see, from there I didn’t want to go again and I was thinking to myself is this really what I want to do for 3…

I flash away along the street like a spark being lit before a fire. Im almost there, as I keep running across the bridge, when out of nowhere I hear him "Emma! Get back here now!" I turn around afraid of what might happen. He stops running at the other end of the bridge. Just faintly I can hear his cries like a banshee yelling at the top of his lungs. I look back up at the stars. The amazing celestial bodies illuminate the darkness, my fears crumble to dust beneath my feet, when it hits me. The only way to put an end to all the suffering, to all the pain is to end myself. It's the only way. The memories, the hatred, and the torment now linger in the distance as he gets closer and closer. I drop my bag and climb up to the edge of the rusted…
