Argumentative essay: Was the Palace of Versailles a good or bad idea to build?
The Palace of Versailles was a good idea because it centralized power in France during King Louis the fourteenth’s reign. The main reason he built the Palace of Versailles was because he didn’t trust his nobles, Louis thought they were planning to overthrow him. In moving the government to The Palace of Versailles, his aim was to keep a close watch on his nobles and he could promote his nobles who were loyal and respected his views. Before the revolution, the Versailles surroundings including the palace, the exquisite gardens, and an inner royal hunting ground for the nobles and the “sun King”, it was a good idea to have the royal hunting grounds because for Louis XIV as he needed to maintain a mutual respect between him and his nobles. Between the palace and the town there are also legions of buildings that housed the war and foreign affairs ministers as they were some of the most important governmental people, and residencies for those not entitled to live in the palace or less loyal and unworthy men and women, they were named as the “stables and the kennels,” (Furdham university professor of international history) among other structures for the king’s courtiers and entourage. The palace was chock-full of paintings and sculptures, ornaments and privately hired architectures for important rooms and halls (like the “Hall of Mirrors”).
