Children are among the victims of this conflict. Not only are they being killed or injured by Israeli forces and Hamas militants but they are also being affected psychologically. This impacts on their ability to live a healthy and safe life and most importantly, their right to education. Palestinian children living in the Gaza Strip and West bank and Israeli children living on the borders of these areas suffer from behavioural problems. These include increasing levels of violence, sleeping problems, less attachment to family and community, emotional and cognitive problems and a decreasing hope in the future. For Palestinian children, the cause of these psychological problems comes from the fear for themselves and their families lives and witnessing violence and death in which Israeli Forces bomb the two areas and internal fighting between Hamas and Fatah, two political parties. For Israeli children, the fear comes from Hamas militants shooting rockets into Israel killing or injuring themselves or their family.
Within this conflict, there is three main parties responsible. In recent times, Fatah had the majority of seats within the Palestinian parliament. However in the 2006 election, the party lost the majority of its seats to Hamas. Because of this, Palestine split with Hamas in control of the Gaza Strip and Fatah in control of the West Bank.
