Pallet Market in China 2014-2018
Pallet Market in China 2014-2018

A pallet is a flat panel that supports goods during their transportation. It is designed to be lifted by forklifts and pallet jacks. The majority of pallets are made from wood, while pallets from materials such as plastic, metal and corrugated paper are also available. The demand for pallets in value terms is expected to grow at a faster pace than the demand in unit terms, because of an increase in the demand for expensive plastic pallets and the adoption of automation technology during the forecast period.

The internal and external factors bring both positive and negative effects on Palliser Furniture, and the potential threats and opportunities both from Mexico and China. On one hand, some internal strategies made Palliser successfully. For example, Palliser created partnership with Brazilian company to keep its cost leadership in North America. Also, the company provide great customer service, delivery times and customization options. Most importantly, Palliser reached cost advantage by contracting some value chain components to Asia such as Taiwan and Indonesia. However, the company use both differentiation and cost leadership strategy, which made the products are lack of concentration. On the other hand, the external factors create both opportunities and potential threats to Palliser. Before 1998, the geographic location of Mexico provides lower distribution costs due to Mexico close to the USA market. Also, Mexico has more experienced and skilled workers in the furniture industry. However, the friction cost issue, shipment difficulties, and interpretation of the law in Mexico bring many restrictions and threats to the development of Palliser. After 1998, with the globalization, Palliser found some opportunities in China such as cheap and efficient labour, little environmental regulations, lower income taxes and social benefits, and little pressures from its Union. But, the biggest challenge in China is difficult to establish a long-term partnership with Chinese government and find a trustworthy local…

The environment in which Forest Hill Paper Company operates in is a cyclical environment with upswings every three to four years. Due to the cyclical nature of the industry, customers try to anticipate times when they would not be able to get paper by ordering large quantities of paper at certain times and none at others. Because of this, FHPC has times when they are flushed with orders and cannot meet them with their production capabilities, and times when they are not running at optimal levels due to lack of demand. Along with this issue, the market share for domestic paperboard has been steadily declining. The most significant reason there is a decline in market share is the moving trend toward plastic and more environmentally friendly forms of paperboard. In general throughout the industry, companies have made little effort to expand capacities of the production facilities. At times the demand greatly exceeds the capacity of any one production plant. In boom times the industry as a whole experiences great increases in selling price for the paperboard products for most of the grades of paper.…

Pallets are used to make shipping more unitized and as an extra layer of protection for products and material. If you ever happen to go to a Sam’s Club or Costco you will see that many of their products are on pallets. Companies use this tertiary type of packaging for their bulk shipments. Many times you will see boxes loaded onto pallets and then shrink wrapped into place to ensure that the material does not fall off the pallet during shipping. Pallets also come in several sizes with the most common size being 40in. by 48 in. (Blanchard, 2004) There are several different methods in which boxes can be stacked onto pallets. One of the most common methods of stacking pallets is the brick method. This method is believed to be the strongest method because the weaker part of the box supports the greatest weight. (David, Stewart, 2010) There are several considerations that must be considered before deciding on using a pallet. A company must decide on if it will use secondary packaging to ship the product or if tertiary packaging will be used. If tertiary packaging will be used knowing what size boxes will be used because will determine the pallet size. Also, how is the product going to be shipped? Pallets used for air transportation will be different than pallets that are used for ground transportation. Other considerations will be how the boxes will be secured onto the pallet and if the material will need to protected against the weather elements. The use of pallets allow for easier movement of material and products from warehouse to warehouse or onto a particular mode of transportation. It also ensures that products will arrive at its destination with the least amount of…
