It is one of the best anthropological accounts of this region. The style is gripping with detailed statement of experiences, of the people of African origin in the former colonies of Spain and Portugal and the stamp of their influence on these parts on all walks of life – society, economics and culture. While the history of the Blacks is well researched and ably presented in USA, it is not so with Latin America where there is still an air of mystery and vacuum. It is ironical that it should be so considering the fact that it has the highest number of Africans residing here outside the African continent (Fagundes 68-78).…

This action alone speaks volumes about the heightened prejudice that fueled in the minds of the Europeans against the Native Indians. In The Narrative of Cabeza de Vaca, we witness the superior and greedy attitude of the European conquistadors, which later evolves to a civil and sympathetic view.…

A person will face many challenges in the pursuit of his entrepreneurial dreams. One must know that as long as you build your business around your passion and make solid business decisions, you can find a way to make it happen. If you believe in what you are doing, others will pick up on it and support you. Take Arnel “Jojo” Raakin a third generation descendant of Abondia del Puerto Raakin, or “Lola Abon,” who made durian sweets a must-have pasalubong item for every visitor to the city, as well as a well-loved everyday item for the locals. Lola Aabon’s a by word which is fast becoming a household name in 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and even up to this date. However, it must have been the passion for the love of cooking and drive that must have similarly propelled his grandmother to establish the family business years ago, this time, in the well-apt name, “Apo ni Lola Durian Delicacies”.
