Introduction
Panadol Rapid Soluble, is paracetamol based a medical drug that treats pain and discomfort associated with headache/tension headache, migraine, toothache, muscular aches, cold and flu symptoms, sore throat and menstrual pain (Medsafe, 2012). While there are other recognised sources of pain relief, Panadol has been widely recognized as a being of a high standard treatment for pain. There for the study of varying temperatures upon the dissolution rate of Panadol Rapid Soluble is relevant to a wide population for consumable purposes. When soluble medication such as paracetamol is dissolved into water, passive diffusion occurs. This means …show more content…
The dissolving of paracetamol into water is an anomaly because when most materials are dissolved into a solution it is considered to be a physical change. However, the reaction between water and soluble pain medications is considered to represent a chemical change due to the gas that is given off as the materials in the medication react in the water, subsequently causing bubbles. The chemicals found in most soluble medication include sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda) and citric acid, so with water (after the dissolving) an acid base reaction takes place releasing CO2 gas. Solutes are dissolved into water faster when the water is hotter as the water molecules have more energy which increases the speed of the reaction. This is because the water molecules move around more as they …show more content…
Drop one Panadol Rapid Soluble tablet into the water and start the stopwatch as the tablet becomes fully submerged. Observe the tablet and stop the timer when the tablet has fully dissolved and is no longer visible. Repeat steps 1-3 four times. Repeat steps 1-4, substituting room temperature water for iced, warm, and hot water. To prepare the iced water, drop 3 ice cubes into the beaker. Once they have melted, remove water until it only contains 250mL in the beaker again. To prepare the warm water, boil 125mL of water and pour it into the beaker. After this, pour 125mL of room temperature water into the beaker as well. To prepare the hot water, boil 250mL of water and pour it into the beaker.
