Being that parables are so heavily stated in the bible I think this was an important section to my learning. Also, understanding that the parables of the Kingdom have a great weight in the bible is also important. God does everything to gain for the kingdom and sometimes that message gets lost in our interpretations.
In conclusion, reading throughout these textbooks has helped take some of the fear out of exegeses, hermeneutics, and biblical interpretations. There was so

I have often found myself in a dilemma here in seminary, struggling between the polarized Christian sub-culture of conservative vs. liberal, biblical literalism vs. biblical anecdotalism, immersionists vs. non-immersionists. I find myself among friends who reject the hard-nosed biblical literalism, yet hold the Bible to be genuinely authoritative. Sylvia Keesmaat and Brian Walsh present a refreshing alternative…

Parables are written recounts of Jesus’s life and his teachings. They usually contain a morale or a spiritual belief that people use today. In Jesus’s parable he uses a common object. The reason Jesus used a common object was, so that his followers would understand what he was talking about. In parable of the lamp Jesus used a common middle-eastern oil lamp that every family would have. There are a total of 41 parables in the bible. Mark the author…

An old friend of mine that I had not seen since high school sent me a message on facebook asking about spiritual gifts and speaking in tongues. He explained that this had been an issue of debate in his church and he noticed I had an interest in systematic theology. This subject has been a source of controversy in the church for many years. I decided the best way to reply to his message is to see what the scripture has to say on this subject.…

Throughout every college experience there are two sides to every story. The text made me realize, through vivid examples that I remember learning when I was younger, such as the gods and the giants, something that I have been told since I was young. That I have to always think twice before I think say or do anything.…

To the “uninitiated,” this academic approach can be an unsettling experience. Some people are uncomfortable looking at their own religious tradition in an analytical manner, and they are very uncomfortable listening to others—outsiders—doing this. If you perceive yourself to be in this kind of situation, you need to get beyond it immediately. The goal of this course is not faith, but understanding, although these are not necessarily conflicting goals. As Anselm, an 11th century Christian bishop, noted, “Fides Quarens Intellectum”: “Faith in Search…

The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. If that were not enough to take on, the Old Testament comes our way through multiple styles of authorship and formats, including but not limited to, books of history, law, proverbs, ethics, philosophy, treatises, dramas, songs, epics, biographies, and letters. There have been many books written and published to survey, explain, and/or bring to light the Old Testament, but none more helpful to me than the review subject of this paper, the work of Dr. Elmer L. Towns, entitled “A Journey Through the Old Testament”.…
