Paradise In Pleasantville
What would happen if you the only emotion you felt was pleasant? What if there was nothing else but pleasantness? This is what the movie Pleasantville tries to present to the viewer. Pleasantville is based off the very old story adam and eve. Adam and Eve, is basically the story of how humans became who they are today. Pleasantville takes certain ideals from adam and eve and brings them to the present, through a story about two teens sucked into an old tv show. Although gary yoss (director of pleasantville) reuses the idea of knowledge and paradise from the story of adam and eve, the transformation of whether knowledge is a good or bad thing and the idea that paradise is not what it seems ultimately leads to an idea of individuality that is justified.
One of the biggest similarities between pleasantville and Adam and Eve would be a paradise. The idea of a paradise is somewhere full of happiness, delicious foods, beauty, etc. Pleasantville shares the idea of a perfect place with Adam and eve (but does add its own twist to it). Another similarity between the two works would be the corruption of a

In Adam and Eve, knowledge was basically a sin and the root of all evil. But in pleasantville, knowledge was very good and let people be themselves. Another big difference that is very important is the gender switch on who Adam and Eve portray in pleasantville. Adam is represented by Jennifer, and Eve is represented by David. Eve wanted to change by eating the fruit, which is analogized in pleasantville because david eats fruit that margaret gives him. This shows david being tempted to eat the fruit like eve did. In the beginning Jennifer is wild but starts to live by rules and to respect them, which Adam always did in the story. As you can see by the end, jennifer starts reading books, studying for quizzes, not going out with friends. This is represented as Adam is very obedient to the

The more challenged otherwise solidified expectations of the individual are, the more likely those elements are to be uprooted and replanted, contributing to a movement that advances the group in a new direction. The film Pleasantville highlights the propensity humans have to become flexible, adaptive creatures when prompted by external forces that are appealing to their self interests. When guided by such forces, people will mold themselves into newer, brighter versions of themselves, enhancing the likelihood that they will have an impact on the group as a whole.…

Since both of the cities in these stories are anti-utopian they have many similarities between them. An adolescent takes the role of main character in each story. And they both have to bare all the pain to prevent all others from experimenting pain. They are what would be called a “scapegoat” for each city. Another similarity is that all the people are forced to take drugs to prevent them from getting out of hand. And, in the end of each story people choose to leave and this is what makes them each anti-utopian.…

I have recently read the novel The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and watched the movie Pleasantville. These works focus on making perfect societies. The Giver is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a community with many rules. He is assigned the job of the Receiver of Memory and goes through great amounts of pain and happiness during his training. Pleasantville is about David and his sister Jennifer who goes into their TV to a show called Pleasantville. This town is supposedly peaceful and pleasant. Although The Giver and Pleasantville are both about perfect societies, their characters, setting and the symbolism establishing their greater involvement.…

In the movie, Pleasantville, and in the book, The Giver, there are many different similarities and differences. One similarity is that the communities are portrayed as utopias but in reality are actually dystopias. Another similarity is the weather and the fact that it’s extremely ideal. Also, in both the movie and in the book the communities have no understanding of sex or sexual feelings. However, in the book The Giver the people in the community are capable of these feelings, but they suppress them with a pill. On the other hand, in the movie there is no such thing as sexual feelings until Bud and Mary-Sue show up in Pleasantville and show the people what life is really all about. Some additional differences include: when Pleasantville’s weather changes and black and white change into color. Although there are many similarities of both communities the differences of both communities makes them both very different.…

I read F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this book to other people. There was one main character throughout this novel. The main characters name was Amory Blaine. Amory Blaine was a very attractive man who was truly in love with himself. Blaine fell in love with several women throughout the book. He truly falls in love with a woman named Rosalind who eventually ends up breaking his heart by marrying someone far richer than himself. With that happening Amory Blaine turns into more of a player. Amory attends a boarding school in the beginning of the novel and then he attends Princeton. Amory Blaine eventually gets a job in New York advertising but in the end he loses his friends and almost everything.…

From the beginning, when America became independent from the England Empire in 1776, this great country has been making truly great Americans, whether if someone was African, White, Mexican or any race or ethnicity, America has welcomed them all with open arms. Young and old or wise and adventurous many people that have loved and lost have molded and shaped the America that is here today.
