Zimbardo. This experiment was to study of the psychological effects of perceived power. They set it up so the people had no medical issues, no mental issues, they set it us so all of the male students were mostly equal ; “More than 70 applicants answered our ad and were given diagnostic interviews and personality tests to eliminate candidates with psychological problems, medical disabilities, or a history of crime or drug abuse. Ultimately, we were left with a sample of 24 college students from the U.S. and Canada ” (www.prisonexp.org). The guard were not given rules, they were to make there own; “Instead they were free, within limits, to do whatever they thought was necessary to maintain law and order in the prison and to command the respect of the prisoners”(www.prisonexp.org). Kind of like creating a civilization, like the boys on the island did. During the beginning of the experiment none of them were actually feeling there part they were surprised when a rebellion broke out on the morning of the second day. they already tried to rebel. They started to get mentally crazy. It got so bad that they had to let a few of the students out of the experiment. They soon the guards became very serious about their roles and became very abusive to the prisoners. We all are tempted to follow Satan's rules like Beelzebub did In Paradise lost even the most kind can still have a beast deep inside them. In the “Lord of the Flies” book, a civilization will crash without having rules and regulations to control our beast. The Stanford Prison Experiment shows the reality of it, that putting people in a room without any rule (so kinda like being new to the word and learning from the start). They are more likely to learn toward the bad side then the good. The guards could of made up any rules but decided to make then cruel. There's a beast in everyone, it just takes the right place or person to bring it
