Paradise Now Sparknotes
Paradise Now is a movie released in 2005 about two friends carrying out a suicide bombing. In the following paragraphs I will talk about and share my opinions over several aspects of Paradise Now including the setting, reasons why they are doing this, the romantic interest's opinion, and if they go through with it along with my personal views on suicide bombings. This Movie is based in Israel and follows two Palestinian men Khaled and Said. The protagonist lived in what seemed to be a Muslim majority area, under Israeli military control. They had to go through checkpoints almost anytime they traveled anywhere and were in an area with constant bombing and gunfire. At no point did any of the characters recognize these event, besides if talking …show more content…
As the movie goes on the attitude of Khaled and Said switches. The turning point for Khaled seems to be when he had his conversation with Suha about suicide bombings, for when they are finally able to continue the mission he tries to convince Said to stop with some of the same points made by Suha about there being another way that does not involve them dying. Said, who did not seem overly eager about this opportunity, had problems with this mission through most of the movie. He skips out on his first chance to detonate when he see’s a small child and is not able to blow himself up. He seems like he will be the one to back out of the mission until you find out his dad was executed by the Israeli government. At this point Said seems to become focused on killing himself, he now seems more detached and stops caring about those around him including his best friend. In the end when Khaled is trying to talk him out of it, he agrees to cancel the mission and tricks Khaled into a car that takes him away so Said will have no distractions. Said ends up getting on a bus with soldiers, and civilians, and finally detonates the bomb while it is assumed Khaled is taken back

Thomas L. Friedman’s Beirut to Jerusalem graciously dons its readers with a comprehensive overview of the conflicts of the middle east with a focalization of Israel and Lebanon. From a first hand experience, Friedman deftly navigates the politics, religion, and local stories during a ten year time span (1979-1988). This time span covers much of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the civil war of Lebanon. Friedman spends his first five years living in Beirut, and the next five years living in Jerusalem. He takes from these times a multitude of personal and local short stories to give a comprehensive overview of the life of a common man. From these stories he weaves a unique equilibrium of violence, nefariousness, and heart. Friedman manages to maintain the novels’ material equally pertaining to Beirut and Jerusalem in an attempt to show two sides of the story. Friedman’s favoritism for human life and disdain of senseless brutality, government, and corruption is what gives this novel its vibe. Thomas L. Friedman’s Beirut to Jerusalem uses a opinionated historical biography to…

In the film Pleasantville and Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451 the two controlled worlds are similar in the way their societies are ruled. Everyone living in the two stories is oblivious to individuality and how unique is not even a word that is used in speech in either. However this is all they know, and they’re not in control; no one has a mind of their own. In Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and the film Pleasantville, the theme of control is presented through dehumanization, collective loss of memory and mastery of nature.…

This child suffered the arguably worst separation from his family of any person travelling with Ishmael. The rebel soldiers seized his house, beat his father, raped his sisters repeatedly, stole the family’s entire property, and forced the parents to carry it as they left their only son. Saidu’s fear forced him to remain undetected in his attic during this entire course, an invisible listener of horror. These events weighed excessively on his mind as evidenced by his words: “Every time people come at us with the intention of killing us…. part of me dies” (Beah 70). Besides the soldiers’ actions in general, the very act of their intimidating Saidu to the point where he felt that “part of [him] died” shows a sadistic corruption in Beah’s book which fuels tormentors... and paradox one (Beah…
