Losing a loved one is difficult, but questioning if they are really or not alive takes a toll on one’s daily life. In Heaven’s Keep, Jo’s plane disappears without a trace and no one can seem to find it until people start digging deeper into the story. Her husband Cork, son Stephen, and family friend Palmer set out to find what really happened on that plane and where Jo really went. Visualizing Aurora, Minnesota, evaluating where the airplane went, and questioning how Jo died is simple because the author used great detail in the book Heaven’s Keep.…
People have always been drawn to stories of people falling in love and overcoming impossible odds to be together. The myths of Cupid and Psyche, Vertumnus and Pomona, and Ollantay and Cusicoller are all love stories with happy endings. In all of these myths there are obstacles that each couple must face before they can live happily ever after. These myths are all similar in the fact that in the end love prevails; however they are different because they face different obstacles in their journey.…
I am Kaitlyn Luepann and I am portraying the fairy attendants Peaseblossom, Bottom, Cobweb, and the “jester fairy” Puck From William Shakespeare’s play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” I will be portraying all these characters as one character with characteristics of all four. The ways I am going to adapt the characters that I am portraying are for me to have a witty sense of humour, yet have common courtesy and manners, and have respectful body language and a humourous tone of voice because the three fairy attendants are very respectful, but Puck is humourous. How I adapt all of the fairies body language and tone of voice from the play to the modern day is to be a respectful Starbucks worker, who cracks jokes in a funny manner while customers…

A Midsummer Night Dream is a play written by the late William Shakespeare. This play is about a love triangle how one loves the other when the other does not like them until finally it all ends in a resolution, as they have a secret fairy world looking over at them, this play is almost like a mix between the fantasy world and the real! Bottom is one of the characters in this play, and in this play Bottom is a humorous and confident character, although being intelligent in other fields Bottom is not a very clever or educated man. Bottom and his fellow workmates are named the “rude mechanicals”, unsophisticated men but rather great tradesmen, working not with the mind but with the hands, though Bottom may be labeled a “rude mechanical” in many…

"Trifles," a one-act play written by Susan Glaspell, is a cleverly written story about a murder and more importantly, it effectively describes the treatment of women during the early 1900s. In the opening scene, we learn a great deal of information about the people of the play and of their opinions. We know that there are five main characters, three men and two women. The weather outside is frighteningly cold, and yet the men enter the warm farmhouse first. The women stand together away from the men, which immediately puts the men against the women. Mrs. Hale's and Mrs. Peters's treatment from the men in the play is reflective of the beliefs of that time. These women, aware of the powerless slot that has been made for them, manage to use their power in a way that gives them an edge. This power enables them to succeed in protecting Minnie, the accused. "Trifles" not only tells a story, it shows the demeaning view the men have for the women, the women's reaction to man's prejudice, and the women's defiance of their powerless position.…
Death is an inevitable process of life, when a significant other is lost it can cause a traumatic disruption in the way someone continues living their life. When someone neglects change the feelings of being isolated, may be resulted by self-imposed thoughts of not belonging with society or by being rejected by others leading to the feeling of loneliness. Just as in the short story “A Rose for Emily”, in which William Faulkner conveys the struggle of loneliness and isolation from the inability to adapt and accept change. This is emphasized through the relationship Miss Emily had with her father, Homer Barron, and society itself.…
For a long time historical pieces have been used through paintings and poems such as Penelope of the Odyssey, The tale of Penelope is about a brief time when she is longing for her husband to come back one day. When Odysseus was gone for the Trojan War for a long time, she had hope that her husband will come back one day. Penelope represented hope as one of the most hopeful women in form of themes that comes from many epic works on her. In the painting Penelope and the Suitors, John Williams Waterhouse uses the Suitors of Penelope to show that when people are gone for a long time their loved ones still have hope they will come home and the loved ones will be there waiting for them, while in her poem “Penelope,” Dorothy Parker uses the same scene to show that people long for their…
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night explores the idea of sexuality being fluid through cross-dressing and mistaken identities. Tennyson's poem "The Lady of Shalott" relates the story of a woman cursed to remain inside a tower on Shalott, an island situated in the river which flows to Camelot. No one knows of her existence, as her curse forbids her to leave the tower, forever bound to weave a tapestry illustrating the wonders of the outside world by the means of what she can only see through the reflections of a large magic mirror. As the poem progresses, so does the lady's tiredness of her lonely existence in her tower, growing "half sick of shadows" (Tennyson 71), until one day Sir Lancelot on his way to Camelot "flash'd into the crystal mirror" (106) enticing the lady to "[leave] the web, [leave] the loom" (109) and look down onto him immediately breaking the curse.…
