Price hike: unimaginable sufferings of people

David Jones, Dhaka, 25 August 2012:
Recently the prices of almost all essentials commodities especially rice, wheat, groceries, oil, vegetables etc. have gone up beyond the purchasing capacity of the common people. It is found in the local markets that rice sells 35-45Tk. per kg, flour 32-42, Soyabean oil 110 and onion TK 40-50 per kg. Prices of all other daily necessaries have been found to increase in the same way.

The soaring price hike has already made the life of people especially for the poor and fixed income people intolerably difficult. No one knows what their budget will be in the next month or week.

There are many reasons of price-hike. Short supply of commodities and money inflation are the main causes of price-hike. Smuggling and black-marketing are also responsible for price hike. It is learnt from the customers and retailers that the syndicates or the hoarders are deliberately creating this nuisance. In fact, they store essential commodities with a view to making huge profit. This causes a sharp decrease in the supply in the market which contributes to increase in prices. Also the police and concerned authority remain silent taking bribe.

If the situation continues, the people of low income group will not be able to buy their daily necessaries and undergo untold sufferings. As a result they have to consume less than they need. The poor will become poorer and the rich will become richer. Suffering of common people will remain stand still.
The concerned authority said that price hike is nothing new. The whole country is suffering from high prices of commodities due to increase of prices in the international market and money inflation at national level. Yet we are alert to check any tampering in the market. But most of the common people do not agree with them. “These are lame excuses. We just want to have the prices within our reach. We just want to survive” ---said Mr. Ali Ahmed, a retired

Chris McCandless‘s admirers are wrong to believe that he was a deeply honest person. At some moments in Into the Wild, he was not an honest person. According to Westerberg, a McCandless’s friend, said, “He never explained why he’d changed his name” (Krakauer 18). When McCandless decided to make a trip into the wild, he changed his name; he did not even bring any identification with him. During the trip, everybody knew about him under the name Alex. Westerberg was a friend that was close to McCandless, but he never knew McCandless’s real name until he discovered from McCandless’s tax form. Westerberg was so surprised, but he did not ask McCandless the reason why he changed his name. Westerberg knew something happened between McCandless and his father, which McCandless never told him. Unfortunately, he did not have a change to hear the truth from McCandless. The significance about changing his name was that McCandless did not want everybody to know the truth of his personality. He hid everything about himself and his family, except his sister. It was a pain in his heart when he thought about his father. Beside this, McCandless was also a dishonest person in his family. He kept all things he knew about his father inside, even his sister. In Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer wrote, “but he did not confront his parents with what he knew, then or ever. He chose instead to make a secret of his dark knowledge and express his range obliquely, in silence and sullen withdrawal” (Krakauer 123). These actions by McCandless suggest much about his character. His problem with his father could be solved if he told the truth with his parents, but he never did that. He just kept inside and became angry to his father, even lying to his friend with a new name. Lying with his friend and his family was lying to himself. He could not stand it because his father was lying to him and his mother, but he still repeated the mistake of telling lies with his parents. Keeping…

    Changes of Gas Prices

There were a few main causes for the sharp rises in gas prices during 1999 to mid 2008 time period. The sharp rise in gas can mainly be contributed to the increase in the price of oil. The high prices of oil are attributed to the cases of supply and demand. The supply of oil has not increased enough to meet the new demand. Demand for oil has increased over the years in a few countries while the supply stays constant causing the price increase. The price of gasoline is also heightened by the taxes, the cost to refine oil into gasoline, the transportation costs, and the profit of the gasoline dealer. The main causes for such a drastic change in prices are the change in demand from a few countries while the supply of gasoline has remained almost constant over the years span.…

In reality, what triggers the rise in prices is an increase of money in circulation, which is a result of the actions performed by the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve, being the government agency responsible for printing the nation money supply, determines how many dollar bills are put into circulation. The dilemma arises because, when more money is added into the economy and an individual has not spent any of it, the person is now poorer in relation to everyone else than they once were. Adding more money into the economy dilutes the value of each individual dollar, thereby decreasing its purchasing power.…

First of all, the rising prices of gas, a critical input in almost all production processes, will trigger the price hikes of most consumer and industry products: the inflation. For example, after the gas price increases, the costs of transportations also increase. Raw materials need to be transported into factories before they become final products; all final products need to be transported to retail stores where consumers can buy them. Therefore, the increasing costs of transportation will directly be added in the prices of consumer products. Moreover, the high gas prices generally are led by the high crude oil prices, and the crude oil is the raw material of most important chemical products such as nylon and synthetic polymers, which are inputs of most industry products. Consequently, the hike of the crude oil price also leads the rises of the industry product prices. The pervasive inflation is inevitable.…

In the next paragraphs I will explain to you why I think this. Rising the price when demand is low is necessary in order to keep items in stock and on the shelves. Without rising prices many consumers would be in need of crucial supplies such as water, food, and generators. Although many think it is wrong, it is actually only helping others. It may cost more, but at least there will be supplies left.…

I am thoroughly excited about the possibility of being hired for the position of Medical Administrative Assistant here at St. Mary’s Adult Care. I have always enjoyed being around people, and I am highly skilled when it comes to making people feel comfortable, especially in situations that may not be ideal or very comfortable for them. I continually find myself seeking employment in jobs that put me in the position of dealing directly with people. At any given moment, I could be helping someone solve an issue, speaking a few gentle words to put a smile upon their face, or nursing someone back to health with a soft kindness that I am proud to possess. I found my love of taking care of people when my father had a heart attack on the job and could no longer work. It was then that I became his main caregiver. This forced me to mature quickly. I was the only child at home during that time, and my mother was always working, so this placed me in the position to start taking on adult responsibilities. I began paying bills, I made sure that my father had breakfast in the morning and had taken his medication before I went off to school. While taking care of my father, I learned the names of his medications and what their purposes were; I gave him his insulin shots, performed glucose testing and readings, took his blood pressure, as well as planning nutritional meals to keep his heart in good shape and his diabetes under control. I did this through my entire four years of high school. What I have learned from taking care of my father is patience, courteousness, the importance of listening to what the patient needs, and no matter how bad your day goes, never let it show or take it out on anyone.…

Why are we experiencing oil price hike every now and then? Here are some possible reasons or causes of this event. The rise in the price of oil can be determined by several contributing factors. The simplest explanation is that the demand for oil is greater than the current supply. When demand exceeds supply, price will increase as people are willing to pay more. Depending on your political views and knowledge of the situation, you may also believe that the production of oil is much lower than capacity because certain middle-eastern countries know that America depends on oil imports more than other countries. An increase in oil prices will lead to a slightly weaker US economy. The other reason is that OPEC ( Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries ) is a large cartel arrangement that has the sole purpose of profit maximization as a whole. Thus they set the industry to maximize profits for the industry as a whole as opposed to competing amongst each other - this allows OPEC to effectively limit the output so that it corresponds to the profit maximizing level and drive up the price. Oil producing countries are having a hard time transporting the oil or bought by people even before the new batch arrives. These are just few…

Every year the government tries his best to control the price hike of the daily essentials but fails eventually. But this year, the government has taken some unprecedented steps to control the price hike. The government has come into terms with the traders that they will not profiteer in the month of ramadan and the profit limit for the retailers would not be more than 10 percent. Other than making the traders and business leaders promice, the government has taken some other important steps as well. They are :…
