Check traffic: As you approach the parking spot, slow down and check traffic in your rear-view mirrors. Turn on your signal to indicate you will be parking. Stop your car two feet away from and even with the vehicle in front of the parking spot.
Begin to turn: With your car in reverse, turn the wheels to the right and slowly back toward the vehicle behind the spot. As your front door passes the back bumper of the front car,
begin to straighten your wheels and proceed to back in straight.
Clear the front car: Once you are cleared of the vehicle in front, turn your wheels sharply to the left and back slowly to the car in the rear. Keep your eyes on the sidewalk area and towards the vehicle behind your car.
Straighten out and finish: Begin to straighten out your car by turning the wheels to the right and pulling toward the center of the space. Straighten your wheels, unless you are positioned on a hill. By the end of your parking attempt, your car should be within a foot of the curb and at least two feet away from each parked car around you.
Leave the spot: When it’s time to exit the spot, turn on your signal. Be sure to check your mirrors and blind spot, and when it’s safe, pull out into your traffic lane.
