This article emphasizes the results of an experiment conducted by the author to find out the students accomplishments with the use of portfolios in the middle grade classrooms. The author used the portfolios as assessment tool in one of his mathematical classes. According to the author, the use of portfolios facilitated him to incorporate more activities requiring problem solving skills as well as projects. This also enabled him to gain insight into his student’s mathematical thinking and learning process.
