Paruresis and Parcopresis
“You are not alone!” says the International Paruresis Association. Paruresis, also known as “shy bladder” is a psychological problem concerning the bladder. Not everybody experiences these phobias, but those who do, may never forget it. It is a struggle for one with Paruresis to urinate in a public restroom and it is most common among the male population, although, females are known to experience it as well. Parcopresis is the fear of defecating in a public restroom, or anywhere there may be other’s present. This, like Paruresis, is a phobia and is controlled by the mind. The most interesting thing learned about this topic is definitely the topic itself. A lot of people make jokes about how they have shy bladders or “pooping in public problems”, but most likely, those people who make the jokes have no idea that there are actually real phobias that have to do with these things. The hope for these phobias is that they don’t affect too many people in the world, and for the people who already are struggling with them, may they learn how to conquer their fears of public restrooms.
