Being a parent is one of the toughest jobs out there it requires your full attention and time. But there’s right ways to parent and wrong ways too. I believe a parenting style like Russell baker’s mother is a good way to raise a child. She demonstrates discipline but not too much and she’s caring of her children. She is able to balance the two and set her children up for success in life. Every parent should take not on how she raises her children.
Russell baker’s mother helped shape who he is today by discipline, she always pushed and told him what to do. She always insisted that he would be better than his father and herself even if he didn’t want to do the things she wanted him to do. Russell baker states “if you think I’m going to raise a good for nothing” (Baker 144). This shows the determination and frequent reminders that she tells him that he better be something in life. Amy Chua disciplines her daughters as well, she doesn’t let them mess around she is always having them doing homework and practicing many extra-curricular activities. She like Russell bakers mother wants them to be something in life and succeed. Amy Chua says “Tenacious practice, practice, practice is crucial for excellence; rote repetition is underrated in America” (Chua 317). She says practice makes perfect and that’s true and more parents should push their children to keep on practicing even if they don’t want to , because in the long run they going to be successful. Even though these two mothers have strict ways, Amy Chua doesn’t let them have any fun which I think isn’t good. There has to be a little bit of freedom in their life and that’s where Russell bakers mom is superior even though she has the power to discipline she wasn’t over controlling of her son. She allowed some freedom for himself to do things on his own.
Even though both parents have strict styles they’re also caring, Russell bakers mom helps him realize his potential to be a writer and always cared for him. Baker says “Reading it with her own schoolteacher’s eye, my mother agreed it was top-drawer seventh grade pose and compliments me” (Baker 146). Amy Chua also cares for her children even if she’s really strict she states “It’s not that Chinese parents don’t care for their children, just the opposite they would give up anything for their children it’s just an entirely different parenting model” (Chua 319). Both parents love their children even though others may see them as too strict or too hard on their children it’s just a different way of showing it and expressing it. As all parents love and care for their children they just want them to succeed in life and if that means being little tough and strict. It’s ok because some kids it’s just what they need in life, some tough parenting. Russell baker’s mother had a good balance between the two she cared for him but didn’t spoil him. She also wasn’t a control freak either and let him do things that he liked to do as well. As Amy Chua she didn’t let her daughters have as much fun, they miss out on a lot of activities such as sleepovers, parties , watching TV and many more.
I believe these two parents have good qualities in the way they raise their children they always pushed them to be great and succeed. But Russell baker’s mom is the better parent here she always pushed her son to be great and showed that she cared for him very much. She let him do some things he liked but didn’t let him get off track. She always kept him on a path to success without overbearing and controlling every aspect of his life. Every parent should take a page out of her book and apply to their own children because I think it’s the right way to parent. She implemented him with important life skills such as hardworking, resiliency, and caring. It allowed him to be successful in life. She struck the right balance between fun and work which is very important to do in a child’s life.

Parenting is an acquired skill achieved usually at a early part of adulthood, or subliminally obtained from the false conception that reading a "How to Parent for Dummies" books will actually give you that skill. Two insightful passages into the world of parenting, a essay, "The Most Powerful Question a Parent Can Ask..." written by Neil Millar and the short story "Be-ers and Doers" by Budge Wilson. Both passages attack the common ground of disrespectful children and how to raise them to your ideals. Although both passages share a similar goal they both host completely different attack strategies one much more aggressive then the other. The short story's "Be-ers and Doers" ideal of parenting is put far out of reasonable proportion, it would be feasible to think that the essay "The Most Powerful Question a Parent Can Ask..." is a far more reasonable approach at parenting.…

There are three different types of parenting, and they are authoritarian style parent, the permissive style parent, and the democratic style parent. The book’s main argument is that forcing you to reevaluate your thinking about parenting. It reveals new research that not only challenges modern-day parenting practices but also questions old practices as well. It is aiming to make you think about modern parenting styles at least twice. It isn’t following the latest parenting trends; it is analyzing and deconstructing them. It isn’t proposing the “new, correct and only” way to parent; it gives you the research and helps you navigate the mixed messages. The book investigates common misconceptions seen in modern parenting practices, and in children’s education more generally. I’ll try to summarize book’s arguments which are served in ten chapters. In chapter one, they are focusing on the inverse power of praise. The argument of this chapter is that false…

The first parenting style is authoritative which also tends to be the most successful type of parenting. Authoritative is when a parent is not being sheltering of a child but making sure the child has an understanding of the rules and regulations the parent has set in place but they explain the reasoning behind the decisions they make. Many of these children grow up to be very respectful of the needs of others. The children of an authoritative parent may also have a much higher self-esteem and are popular amongst their peers. An example can be setting a curfew and making sure the child is in the house by that…

He thought that one should take less harsh and more relaxed approach to child nurturing. I would practice more relaxing approach to my child than harsh as harsh parenting approaches are damaging to children’s well being. Another philosophy that I would continue to practice is by Ainsworth. She emphasized on a child secure attachment to its caregiver. Securely attached children, to their parents or caregiver, explore their environment and learn faster. Children who receive a minimal response from their parent’s exhibits delayed development in many areas. The third philosophy that I would practice is by Benjamin Spock. He not only questioned harsh parenting, but also lenient parenting. According to his theory children needs limit within the context of warmth and affection. Children should be provided with firm and reliable but loving guidance. To raise a child with better outcomes, I would be loving, caring, supportive, responsive, firm, consistent, respectful, and also demanding of my…

I believe that parents play an irreplaceable role in the lives of their children. This vital relationship positively impacts a child's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is deeply valued by millions of American families. The movie, Big Daddy, is a about a young boy that has been sent back to live with his biological father. He did not know that he had a son, but found out shortly after his mother passed away and the boy was brought to his home. The father, played by Adam Sandler, takes on the responsibility of raising the five-year-old little boy. In the movie, he adopts a permissive parenting style and allows the child to make his own decisions and rules. He does not give his son boundaries or guidelines. The movie depicts that not having rules, guidelines or parental expectations will result in the child making the right decisions for himself on his own. However, both our text book and research shows that although these type of parents tend to be warm and supportive with their children, not setting rules and boundaries for children to follow usually results in children who are rebellious, impulsive and domineering. Adam Sandler does not say no to his son, which is a main characteristic of a permissive style parent. Sandler was simply a resource for his son rather than a role model that should be communicating what is to be expected from his son. Permissive style parenting over a long period of time will result in teens that may have difficulty with self-control and…
