Introduction:
Partners, Healthcare System (PHS) is a nonprofit organization that is situated in Boston. It was founded by Brigham and women Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital. Partners Healthcare built a unique application with a set of facilities that support information needs of the clinicians. The facilities help to reconcile medication histories during the care transition points (inpatients admission and discharge). In its business strategy, Partners has also established a highly regarded bioinformatics, medical imaging, telemedicine and medical informatics research group. Partners have used the seven ideas as the management framework for its work in developing the Partners IS.
What are the challenges faced by PHS in implementing an enterprise-wide electronic medical records system?
Some of the problems that are faced by the PHS in the implementation of an enterprise-wide electronic medical records systems include;
i. The means that they can use to collect and consolidate it into integrated digital records all the information about a given patient over a given patient over time. This can include a transcribed comments of those health care professionals with whom the patients interacts and the objects, for example, an x-rays and MRI scans. ii. Another challenge that Partners Institutional Management face is the need to establish decisions support processes that needs support to the medical practitioner in the making of the best recommendations for the drugs and other therapies that are based on the likely benefits to patient at the lowest cost. This will result in operational excellence. iii. The third challenge that is faced by the Partners Institutional management is the need for knowledge management processes to derive the best practices from the observable outcomes of recommended medical therapies (Joseph Tan & Payton, 2010).
