Despite the development of the internet and cell phones, the television is still the most important when it comes to important sources of information. Most people use the TV every day and it plays a significant role in those peoples’ lives. Sometimes, it’s really hard to imagine what life would be without it. However, a person could argue that the TV isn’t where they get all their information, but it is almost impossible to find a family that doesn’t own a television. Although we don’t gather around the television any more as our parents used to every evening in the 70-90s to watch a new fabulous film or discuss the latest news, we all watch TV sometime during the day for one reason or another. There are a lot of advantages making television so popular. The main reason why so many people choose this means of getting information and entertainment is its simplicity and convenience. All you have to do is to press a button and sink comfortably into a chair. It doesn’t take all that much work to do and depending on what you watch, you are able to get a lot of information, and also get entertainment while doing so. One major problem with television is that people are becoming very dependent upon it. There are a lot less people going out and participating in sports because it takes up too much time and they don’t get to have their “TV time” which I personally think is ridiculous. People are becoming a lot lazier as the television becomes more advanced. Now let’s speak about the different kinds of people working on television and qualities these people should have in order to make things more interesting. It’s still quite difficult to appear on television without the following qualities: intelligence, talent, beauty, leadership qualities, and energy. It’s far more interesting to listen to a football report full of energy than to “a peaceful story” a commentator hankers to tell you. Similarly,

Television is a very powerful media form, as “more than 90% of the UK TV homes already have digital” (The Guardian Online 2010) shows that we are relatively dependant on having television in our day-to-day lives. Television as a media form is the most powerful source of information for the average person, as the news is on hourly on a large variety of channels, reporting news from all over the world. There are even specific channels that viewers can tune into to receive specialist television programs, like BBC Parliament, where viewers can watch the House of Commons live from the comfort of their own homes.…

The beliefs of television have powerful influences on the United States’ culture. It is used as a purpose for entertaining oneself or passing time for most American adults and children. Some people use television as a media source to know what is happening in the local area and around the world. A major belief for many Americans is that television is the main object in the typical American home. We all face our furniture towards the television and act like it is a shrine by placing expensive things around it. We believe that bigger is better and this all reflects in our social class. We spend many hours per week in front of it gazing at it and listening to its content. For most people it is addictive and distractive, yet most homes have at least one television.…

Television is just another part of technology keeping us from viewing the world and living our lives as we should. Instead of coming out of our house and taking on any challenge the world might have for us, we easily give up to our laziness, which quickly makes us grab the bag of chips, the soda, and sit down. Even though I am one of the many people who just loves to have the remote by their side, I strongly believe that television is nothing but detrimental to our society.…

In the last half century of watching television many authors, critic, and people in general has had an opinion on weather watching television is a good thing or a bad thing. In a couple of recent articles that I’ve read one Author Steven Johnson, who wrote “Watching TV Makes You Smarter”. Tells us of how violent and gruesome shows of this era are as opposed to shows of the past. Steven also tells us of how there are some good shows that actually teach people and helps them to learn in a different way. The second article that I recently read was “Thinking Outside The Idiot Box” by Dana Stevens. Not only is Dana an author she is also a paid television critic who states that TV does not make us any smarter and that television is “brain-liquefying poison” for all but especially for children. Dana insist that Steven Johnson theory be put to the test by having everyone partake in a National TV Turnoff Week event to see if anyone gets any dumber. In my opinion Television has many different purposes, such as keeping us updated with the news, educating us on different species/creature inside and outside our planet, but the main purpose for television is soley for entertainment.…

The introduction of television to society is one of the most significant social events in the twentieth century. The first advertisements for the television pictured a family gathered around the set with “Sis on Mom’s lap, Buddy perched on the arm of Dad’s chair, Dad with his arm around Mom’s shoulder” (Winn 352). Today, ninety percent of American households possess a television and the average American home has more television sets than people. The average daily viewing time per adult in the United States is 4.5 hours, making television the most important leisure activity among Americans (Bruni and Stanca).…

I can remember when I was younger, coming home from school into the house to change clothes and head back out the door to play. Any entertainment I received was what I experienced outside. When I came into the house, I was able to watch very little television. The most television I was able to watch was on Saturday mornings and it was cartoons. Today, the young and old come home and the first thing they do is turn on the television set. According to a survey done by Emory H. Woodard and Natalia Grindina, “on average, people are watching over 51 hours of television- that is five hours a day of TV on average for the last quarter of the year. Teenagers (12 to 17) spend 103 hours watching TV a month, whereas senior citizens (65 or older) spend 207 hours”(Media in the home) With the slumping economy, people are forced to stay at home to conserve resources. Although there are plenty of economical alternatives people could do, the world would much rather increase their television watching.…

Introduction Watching television is an experience shared by most adults and children. It is cheap, appealing, and within the reach of the general public. In this way, TV has become an important mass media around the world. Sadly, this resource isn’t used in a way that people could get the best possible benefits from it. People shouldn’t watch too much television because the content of many TV programs is not educational; it makes people waste time that could be used in more beneficial activities; and, although, some say it is informative, it can distort reality for many people.…
