experience of a Clynt Goins. Goins was a senior with bad attendance at McMinn high school and is quoted as said in the article ¨As a result, he started going to school more and took summer school to make up two classes he failed,¨ (pg.6) Also included in the article is gloin giving his own thoughts on the matter; ¨No kid wants to get stuck at home. If they have a job they don't want to depend on someone else to pick them up and drop them off,¨(pg.6). As with Clynt Goins we can see that the no pass/no drive policy actually works, and that from his own account, that it was the need to drive that drove him to get better grades.
However, also in the article the author also quotes a woman named Yael Kidron, she says that ¨Experts would agree that some students may need a little push for their motivation, but a large part of the picture is helping them out.
They cannot do it on their own,¨ (Pg.5). This is true, and students do need someone to help them learn, as also said by Russell Rumberger ¨Getting their bodies into the building doesn't mean that they are going to learn anything,¨(pg.5), but, both of these statements are facilities, for the students already have someone to help them learn, the teachers. If it means the student has to come in at lunch or afterschool, they are driven by the want, and in some cases, need for their driver's license, and therefore, good attendance and good grades as also said by the author.
In conclusion it is clear that, according to first hand accounts and studies, the no pass/no drive law should be passed. Once the no pass/no drive law is passed we will be able to see decreases in high school dropout rates, and maybe even increases in performance in terms of
grades.
