Essential oils are more widely used in modern products than one might expect - usually extracted through distillation, they are used to fragrance bathing products, incense, perfumes and cosmetics, as well as in some types of household cleaner. In terms of alternative medicine, essential oils are most frequently used today in aromatherapy.
Essential oils re foun in aromatic plants, they contain the volatile molecules that contribute fragrance and taste. As of now, 400-500 essential oils are produced by citrus plants.
The objective of this experiment or investigatory report are to, extract essential oil from passion fruit’s pulp and seed, identify the name of the oil, and determine the percentage of the extracted oil from passion fruit.
For the materials and apparatus you need to have; condenser, flask, heating mantel, testubes, testube rack, beaker, graduated cylinder, iron stand, iron clamp, stirring rod, spatula, mortar and pestel, empty ketchup bottle, brown bottle, syringe, foil cheese cloth, triple beam balance, centrifuge machine, oven, bowl grinder, blender, water and 300 grams of seeds with pulp.
Methodology As we’ve decided to have passion fruit as our fruit for essential oil extraction we sliced the passion fruit into half to get the seed with pulp. Then scraped the seeds and put it in a bowl. We scattered the seed with pulp into a foil and put it into the oven. We waited for 3-6 minutes for it to dry.
