Abstract
This paper presents a reflection of student-author’s pastoral counseling experience. The pastoral counseling experiences were grounded in the student’s experience in chaplain and addiction work; current needs and expectations are discussed. Information based on PACO 500 Introduction to Pastoral Counseling’s Module 1 assigned readings were presented.

This student is not currently involved in a ministry in a pastoral role. This student is an active member of the Army reserves, and is currently working on becoming a military chaplain. The goal of each session is to solve the problem. This can be achieved by using both psychological theories and scriptures (Kollar, 17). The difference in pastoral counseling and professional counseling is that not all of the counseling will have a focus on a problem. The goal of pastoral counseling is to help them get their life on track both mentally and spiritually. The idea that Counseling should be fun is the purpose of the text (Kollar, 19).
