Pat Mora
The essay “Why I am a writer” from Pat Mora explains why the author loves to write. She enjoys reading books and through her writing she would like others to discover the same joy she feels when she reads a book. She loves writing because she can find out more things about herself and also describe them. Most importantly she is a Hispanic writer and wants to share her ideas and stories because she believes it is important for Hispanics to take part in literature. I also think writing is a great way to express myself and my feelings to others because you can present your ideas in a more vivid way.
Pat wants readers to enjoy what she writes because she also likes to enjoy what she reads. Like she mentions in her essay “I love the Private-ness of reading and writing” (36). I agree with her, I think Reading is an adventure that can take you miles away without leaving your room. I love science fiction books because for a moment I am inside a story with castles and wizards and even dragons. Although we may all get the basic idea of a book our feelings towards it are private and different than others. I think Pat understands how amazing it is to read a good book and that’s the reason she writes, she wants to give us the same experience.
She enjoys learning about herself through writing. Since with writing she can express how she feels about the things that surround her. She says in her essay “I’m discovering what it is to walk on spongy autumn leaves and to watch snow drifting up in a strong wind”(37). I understand her because I came from Ecuador where it is mostly sunny and rainy to a place where I also saw snow for the first time. I believe we all go through changes in our lives, and it would be nice to write down my own feelings towards these changes.
Pat wants others to know how she felt growing up. How at first she felt ashamed to speak Spanish but later on she noticed why it is important to take pride in where you come from. She
