Patagonia is a company prided on social ethic and global responsibility. When they develop a new product, they search worldwide to find factories that have the skills and equipment to do a quality job and deliver on time. There are four factors considered when choosing a factory; quality, business factors and environmental and social performance standards. Some examples of business factors might be technologies, skills, price, location, ability to deliver on time and customer service.

Even in our heyday, the United States garment industry couldn’t manufacture most of Patagonia’s technical products. The countries currently doing most of Patagonia’s manufacturing are India and China.
Patagonia is committed to “use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.” Over the past twenty years they have given nearly forty-million in cash and in-kind donations to environmental causes. They helped launch two North American business philanthropies, the Conservation Alliance and 1% For The Planet as well as the European Outdoor Group’s Association for Conservation. Patagonia is a privately owned company, and for most privately owned companies it is nearly impossible to find information on them, but this company has such a pride in itself they have no problem showing whomever might be interested just what they are doing, why they are doing it, and most importantly how they are doing it.
