SPECIMEN SUBMITTED: Specimen is prostatic tissue.
PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Enlarged prostate with bladder neck obstruction.
POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Enlarged prostate with bladder neck obstruction.
MACROSCOPIC EXAM: Specimen consists of 14.4 g of pink-tan, apparent prostatic tissue. Two cassettes are taken.
MICROSCOPIC EXAM: Multiple section of the prostatic tissue reveal marked hyperplasia. The glands lie close together, but a fibrous stroma separates them. Corpora amylacea are present within numerous glands. Papillary epithelial hyperplasia is noted. Some of the ducts are dilated, and a periductal mononuclear cell infiltrate is noted.
PATHOLOGIC DIAGNOSIS: Benign glandular hyperplasia of the prostate.

    DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: Informed consent was obtained from the patient and the guardian after discussing alternatives, indications, benefits, and risks.
