Hello Mr. Brown, My name is Jane and I am your PA today otherwise known as a Physician’s Assistant. The doctor had ordered some test for you and I am going to go over your results and explain to you what each of them mean. If you have any questions please feel free to stop me at any time.
First we will start off with your Triglyceride level and it was 145 mg/dl. Your Triglycerides is fat in the blood and they are used to provide energy to your body and they are the main form of fat in your body (WebMD, 2014). Your levels are considered desirable meaning they are not very high, however we would like to see them a little lower.
The second test that was given was to check your cholesterol

I know this is something that is of no interest to you because you stated you didn’t want to change your lifestyle, however, even if you are prescribed medications you will still have to make a change to the way you are currently living. Let me tell you the side effects of the medication used to treat high cholesterol. I just want to let you know that tolerance of medications vary from person to person. “The common side effects are muscle pains, stomach pain, constipation, nausea, and diarrhea” (Mayo Clinic, 2014).
Mr. Brown I am sure you are wondering if the benefits of lowering your cholesterol outweighs the risk of taking medication and yes they do. Statins are known as a group of drugs that inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol and promotes the production of LDL and decreases the levels of HDL. These pills may cause a small increase in weight gain and blood sugar which can also increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes, however, they will also prevent you from having a heart attack and stroke so in the long run you would be better off to make simple lifestyle changes and take

In this candidate’s facility, shift report is being done away from the patient bedside, usually at the nurses’ station, in a doctor’s charting room or outside of the patient’s room in the hallway. When a patient is admitted to Women’s Services at this candidate’s hospital, a flier is placed in the admission folder with the title “Our Promise to our Patients…” The first two bullet points outline our promise to include the patient and their family in all aspects of their care plan. One of those aspects is including the patient and their family—if the patient wishes to include their family—in a bedside report.…

Across the healthcare system there are universal themes that can be applied to several fields of medicine, such as ambition to make a difference, maintaining effective communication, and overcoming obstacles that one encounters throughout his/her career. Six University of West Florida students procured six individual healthcare providers and performed semi-structured interviews with the professionals in order to gain insight into the patient-provider relationship. Five of us interviewed providers in the field of nursing, while one us interviewed a provider in the field of pharmacology. Within the domain of Nursing, our professionals included: a lead RN in the field of cardiovascular/thoracic surgery, a RN that works in the oncology department, a trauma RN who works in the emergency room, a RN who specializes in labor and delivery, a RN midwife, and a pharmacist. While both the midwife and pharmacist practice privately, all the RNs interviewed practice in a hospital setting. In the interest of length, the authors of this paper concluded that there were three characteristics most important to those interviewed: Why they chose their career, communication as a healthcare provider, and obstacles faced. In conclusion of these…

There is Chinese proverb that states “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” My steps began at oblivion. Oblivion followed by acceptance, to accountability, transformation, and finally peace. Initially I was oblivious to any really need for me to become patient. I chose it as the attribute to improve on because it was an area that I wasn’t perfect in. Little did I know how much damage it was doing to me and those I love.…

Alarms have their advantages and disadvantages. However, we could not thrive in nursing without alarms because they save lives. Are they annoying at times, yes they do. In the ICU, alarms are never shut off or turned down; they are set specifically to the patients’ parameters. (Hebda & Czar, 2013, p. 14) stated that “Patient safety is a priority for the health systems, professionals, and consumers around the world.” In the scenario given regarding working in a sterile environment and having my cell phone ringing; I would be truthful and tell my patient that I am doing a sterile procedure and cannot touch the phone at this time. For example, there are several times when doctors and I are doing a sterile procedure and his or her phone or beeper rings, what do they do? In reality, the doctors ask another nurse who is in the sterile environment, but is not a part of the procedure to answer the phone or beeper.…

The patient intake process, simply said, is the process of taking information to establish new patients into your facility. This process is almost never the same between facilities, however no matter how it is done, it is very time consuming. The process can also involve updating already established patient’s information. You do this simply by reviewing their information with them to make sure that it is all the same. Once they are finished providing you with any new or updated information it will need to be entered manually into your computer system for future reference. All new patients will have multiple forms and consents to complete before they are able to visit with that physician. These forms mainly consist of their demographic…

    Patient Narratives

    • 1708 Words
    • 5 Pages

"Narratives" or stories have been used throughout the history of the human race to allow and help people to express themselves in ways that promote personal growth and enhance physical well-being. Even in the simplest of contexts, narratives are a core factor in the advancement of the humanity/society and all of its facets. An illustration of this can be seen in the transfer of a family 's lineage, history, and values from generation to generation. This allows for the recipient of this information to have a greater knowledge of his/her own family and the history surrounding it. Oral narratives and writings, such as journals, stories, or speeches to others are stress-relieving mechanisms that can reduce the external stress. The narrating of one 's thoughts definitely does not initially affect the external stressors one is facing. Narrating does, however, allow one to share these feelings with others and to organize one 's thoughts around these issues. More significantly, narrative opportunities such as these, work to encourage and advance constructive contexts in which individuals such as a mother and daughter or father and son can openly communicate any differences, worries, or problems one might be having with daily living. A more important and serious issue interlaced with narratives is the "personal issue of telling stories about illness…" (Frank, ch.1 pg.2) Narratives are the beginning to the process of healing.…
