As the query was to determine the flavour of the medicines, this could give details of the ingredients within the medicine required for the patient. This could help determine if it was suitable and in terms of interactions and allergies as well.
The flavour requested was for strawberry and from referring to the Patient Information Leaflet was able to determine that the medicines flavour was blackcurrant. In this case it was important to check with the pharmacist who had requested and clinically checked the prescription, as the pharmacist was a specialist in this area and the ward pharmacist.
Also if there was an issue with the medicine for the patient and an alteration had to be made, then the pharmacist who initially clinically checked it would be to be referred for this process. This is due to the pharmacist being aware of the patients history from the patients drug history report and being aware of any important information, such as allergies and adverse drug reactions with various medicines prescribed.
Then following a discussion with the pharmacist and also referring to the BNF for children the pharmacist was able to confirm that the medicines could be taken by the patient without any consequences of adverse drug reactions or
