Patient Voices Network Reflection Analysis

This semester I am currently working with Patient Voices Network with another one of my colleagues. Patient Voices Network is a network that works by connecting interested volunteers that are a variety of different age groups and giving them a voice in health care. Health care partners are the facilities that can utilize these volunteers for their projects. The focus of the last student group to work on this project was to identify barriers to volunteering and engage the college population. Our focus this semester is to expand further and engage our surrounding communities. We are not targeting just college-aged populations we are looking to talk to high schools, mental health facilities, health care facilities, hospitals and any other
I think that the leadership aspect of this project is intertwined with collaboration and relational practice. Collaboration has been proven to provide those we are caring for with the highest possible health and healing outcomes (Clancy, Gressnes, & Svensson, 2013). Although we are not working in the hospital directly with patients in the practice placement we still have a direct influence on the healing process. Thus far in our placement we have done extensive background work and we are beginning to implement it. I am looking forward to engaging our surrounding communities and sustaining our current volunteers. We are now looking towards presenting to our hospitals, and travelling to Castlegar and Nelson and going to their local health care facilities to attain new volunteers and health care partners.
