Patient Y: A Case Study

The Mental Health clinical rotation’s main objective is to have students use the therapeutic communication skills they acquired in the past two years of nursing school. My task was to choose a patient, Y , and perform a psychiatric assessment on him. I was also told too research two articles that pertained to my patients diagnosis. I chose to research an article on medication noncompliance and major depressive disorder. Using a concept map I chose four nursing diagnoses for my patient, as well as, nursing interventions and outcomes. Patient Y is a 65-year-old male who voluntarily admitted himself into the Adult Psychiatric Unit due to suicidal ideations. His mental health diagnoses are major depressive disorder and bipolar II disorder.
