Patricia is a writer who was born in 1954 and lives in Victoria BC, she has won a lot of awards for her fiction and poetry. She is the author of nine poetry collections and one short fiction. She is married to
Terence young who is also a writer, they have 2 grown children. She taught at the University of Victoria, was an editorial assistant for the malahat review, on the board of the Victoria school of writing also as a writer or residence at multiple universities. She received the arc poem of the year award in 2009 and
2010; a few of her poems were also short listed for the CBC literary competition in 2009 and 2010.

Another one of her books called “The Mad and the Beautiful Mothers” was the winner of the Pat Lowther Memorial award. It is about a mother who already knows the hellish burden of her sex, is the disturbance in the oceans rhythm. “Those were the mermaid days” was shortlisted for the Pat lowther memorial award as well. This book has articulate, sensuous and compassionate poems, the reader will feel a sharp jab to the heart. The book “traveling through the floodwaters” Is about a women who denies the existence of the rainbow yet risks her life smuggling prisms over the border. Her last book “what I remember from my time on earth” was the winner of the dorthy livesay poetry prize in 1997. The book has poems about the shifting and dissolving boundaries between the other forms of life. Patricia has 4 poems that are not in her books they are called, “Even the brilliant chimpanzees “, “The origins of the kiss”, “What we know about babies”, and
“Boyfriend, long dead”. Boyfriend, long dead was the poem I chose because it spoke to me, I like dark and mysterious poems and stories. This poem is about a girl who is begging for sex, and the girl
