Henry stated, “We need to shut our eyes, or avoid the sight of the horrible truth”(81). This explained that they don’t want to follow through the horrible incidents that’s about to happen. Also he stated, “God is our side, hoped that he will help our war to victory”(82). This inform that they believe that God can save them and hand the colonists their victorious win against Great Britain. In Concluded, his second appeal which he used was pathos.
The third literary device that Patrick Henry used to persuade the colonists was rhetorical questioning. Henry claimed, “Are the wise men, engaged in the difficult and struggle for our liberty?”(82). This question asked them are they prepared the battle of liberty and the skirmish for freedom. As well he claimed, “Can we trust our love back to the british, or they lied within our truth?”(82). This question addressed to them that can they decided the British will trust the colonists back or more lies will cause great pain that will be added to the war. As resulted, he used the third literary device to persuade the colonists was rhetorical questioning.
