Freire conveys the image of “banking” education as a negative way of being educated. In banking education, teachers assume that students are passive so they take all control of determining what will be learned and “fill” students with pre-selected information. Problem-posing education is the opposite of banking education because it is based around the students and educating the students unlike in banking where the teacher teach the student and the student listen. Freire characterizes problem-posing as a cooperation between the student and the teacher. In this method students will not be sitting idly, waiting for the depositor (teacher) to deposit the information into them. This results in the students having new challenges, understanding and critical thinking.
