Formal Paper When in Rome
Picture yourself driving down the road to your favorite sporting event. You are driving along and eventually get to a bridge that crosses state lines. You cross the bridge and continue on down the road to the sports stadium. As you are driving, you think to yourself, I wonder where all of this came from. The answer to this is Rome. As I will discuss in my paper, roads, bridges, and sporting arenas are all examples we can thank the Romans for. Also in this paper I will explain the importance Roman society has on the world today. I will discuss many topics including events and ideas from the Pax Romana period, ideas and virtues from the Sermon on the Mount, and the magnificent Roman Colosseum.

For example, most colleges have a football program. College students, alumni, and families go crazy for football game day. While football game day may be a fun time, it could be taking away from your education. The money a university makes off of tuition and other fees do not always go towards education. You would think the money you pay for school should go towards education and paying for your professors but that is not always the case. While this is somewhat true, not all the money does. Some of it goes towards other things the university needs like recreation activities, fine arts, and athletics. Athletics, bread and circus, is used to distract the college students from the continuous rise in tuition. While the term bread and circus may be a negative thing to take away from the Roman time period, there are positives to take away from it too. The Roman Colosseum gave us modern day sports arenas. Without sports arenas, we would be limited to ways of
