Women get paid 16 percent less than men do, depending on your race you could make less than 16 percent. Higher education can not solve the pay gap either because the more you go to school the more debt you have which takes away from what you make. Even if women get the higher education there is no guarantee that the women will get the job that pays more. The average women with no high school diploma makes about 429 dollars a week and a women with an advanced college degree makes about 1,243 dollars a week. The student loan rate is also more for women than men. Men on average owe about 12,793 dollars in student loans and women owe about 16,105 in student loans. Which mean men not only have less to pay off but they can start saving their money. Men also need a smaller income to survive which makes it easier for men to retire than women. The 11 percent of americans 65 years or older on average women require 16,000 dollars of income a year as to men on average only need about 11,000 a year. To say that women are underrepresented in the government just might be an understatement.America is ranked number 98 in the entire world for percentage of women in national legislature. Only 12 of the 100 largest cities in the country have female mayors. Journal, “The Nation,” estimates that it will take 500 years for there to be the same amount of representation of women in the government as there are currently men. For America to be a country founded off of democracy, equal rights, and representation, it makes no sense why women aren’t adequately represented in the government. One might ask, why is this important? For one, a higher number of women in the government with a saw in the laws that gets passed automatically alters the laws that get passed and even considered. Do you think that the anti-abortion law that Trump favors would have made it through with more women in the room with a say? More women in the government is also perfect representation for young girls to look up to and not let society limit what they can do with their futures. In Patterns for Democracy, it is acknowledged that more women with government positions leads to more progressive politics. Research has also supported that countries with many women with government positions generally are in a better economic standing. Imagine what state America could be in if it valued women’s voices in the government. What
