PDAF
Abolish or Retain????? Earthquake, Typhoons, Flashfloods and Riots, are just one of the Philippines hot topic in this past few weeks. But the PDAF which commonly called the "pork barrel" has been the subject of much public criticism in which following exposes on abuses by the members of Congress on use of the fund in 1996 and 2013. As the number one subject of the critics this days, we can not avoid that people will spar about removing the pork barrel. But in your opinion should the government abolish it or retain it????? “The Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), better known as “Pork Barrel”, is a regular allocation of public funds to members of the Philippine Congress. It’s designed to give legislators easy access to capital so that they can earmark projects for improving their respective constituencies but Pork Barrel is a frequent target for critics who says it facilitates corruption. They say it makes it easier for politicians to divert money into their own pockets, and perpetuates the patronage politics that has kept the Philippines from progressing”. After reading this statement, It more enlightened me about on how this project really helps our society on improving same as on how it could cajole the politicians to devote it to something else and not for the benefit of the citizens. But for me, even a politician has used it for himself, it is still not enough reason to cause the government to abolish this project because in my opinion not all politicians are greedy for money and because they are not greedy for money, they were able to fulfilled their duty to our society. When PDAF overruled, just how our country will befall, where are we going to take money for the construction of buildings, highways, classrooms and schools which we are benefited. And this is my opinion about the most controversial topic in our country right this days. Hopefully just that, in government decision-making is

His work of the last Judgment has fifteenth century Flemish style, which one could see in the lighting, elongated figures, clarity used in this painting. In addition the fabric and all the phenomenal detailed work in this painting are considered Flemish. However, the enormous senses of emotions, very shallow spacing and all the details make this marvelous piece of art his own. For instance the sinner’s faces and the dramatic emotions of both fear and anger they convey to the viewer.…

On November 9, 2007, Matthew Key, O2’s chief executive, was elated that Britons were flocking to purchase the iPhone. But zealots wondered, “Will the iPhone be worth it for O2, considering the concessions given to Apple?” Released on June 29, 2007 in the United States, Apple’s iPhone was viewed as a breakthrough for its touch panel user interface, web-browsing and multi-media capabilities. Besides the initial $599 price, consumers had to deal with AT&T Mobility in monthly service packages ranging from $59.99 to $99.99. Despite the cost, the iPhone sold one million units in just over two months. For its European launch, Apple selected UK’s O2, Germany’s T-Mobile and France’s Orange. Rumours swirled regarding the negotiated revenue-sharing percentage. In the United States, AT&T had agreed to pay an estimated 10% to 20% of monthly iPhone revenues to Apple, an industry first. Had O2 chosen wisely?…

The history of ‘pork barrel’ started way back on 1922, during the American colonial period. The PDAF in its current form was reintroduced on 1986 during Corazon Aquino’s administration with the creation of the Countryside Development Fund (CDF) in 1990, since Ferdinand Marcos blocked or stopped this pork barrel system during his dictatorship. But on Corazon’s administration the budget for CDF was relieve with ₱2.3 billion in initial funding, it was designed for legislators to fund infrastructure or community projects. The program or system had different names over the years, including the Countryside Development Fund (CDF), Congressional Initiative Fund, and currently the Priority Development Assistance Fund which was renamed in 2000, during the administration of Joseph Estrada. Since 2008, every member in the House of the Representatives receives an annual PDAF of ₱70 million, while on the senate or the senators receives an annual allocation of 200 million & the President also benefits from a PDAF-like allocation, the President's Social Fund (PSF), worth around ₱1 billion. PDAF allocation has gradually increased over the years, before Arroyo stepped down, the last PDAF for the year 2010 at ₱10.86 billion, but when the Benigno Aquino III administration passed its first budget for 2011, the allocation more than doubled to ₱24.62 billion.…

The action of PNoy doesn’t mean the pork is totally abolished. This action of prudency is based on the great number of linked representatives, who received illegal pork or we call the “Porksentatives”. The idea of whether or not to abolish the pork barrel is too hard to decide. But if I were to, I would have chosen not to take it away from the system of government. Yes, I may have stated downfalls in some parts of this essay, but I have a larger picture captured in mind. The outcome of abolishing this system I would always fear. What would happen to the Filipino people if the pork barrel for the betterment of the nation is abolished? Every people must remember this system had its ups in terms of building roads and bridges, program for farmers, scholarships for deserving people, among others. Now, if the pork barrel is to be scrapped, then it should be a challenge to the government to ensure that those who benefit from the program will not be affected. And that is exactly what would happen if it is abolished, there will be no guarantee that these people will continue their education and receive other…
