Peace One Day and The Day After Peace, documentaries written, produced and directed by Jeremy Gilley, are truly inspiring and heart felt. The films took viewers on the journey of what it is like to have an dream, being called dreamer or a fool, and pursuing this dream to have Peace One Day on a global scale. This day of cease fire and non violence, to happen on September 21st of every year, has found its official marking on a global calendar. Jeremy was faced with barriers at many points on his ever going mission to achieve a cease fire day. Most of which he overcame and never gave up on. Many themes in these documentaries connect with materials in our texts books that we have covered thus far. The main theme in which I believe connect the two is Positive Peace.
"… Positive visions of peace as being greater than absence of war."(Barash) - quote from our text book. This connects with the two films because it refers to the idea that positive peace is a much better focus than absence of war as an absolute. What Jeremy was told by His Holiness the Dalai Lama was the "we are responsible." Perhaps this movement of global peace will not happen for our generation, but it is important to start somewhere.
There will always be conflict because we all hold a difference of perception and resources. When Jeremy has to opportunity to meet with The League of Arab States, he forgot to consider how they would perceive his mini film. It is an example of how perception and disagreements in the pursuit of peace can even lead to war. Intercultural cooperation is a stepping stone for Peace. Communication may be time consuming but it is worth it. Jeremy and Jude Law were about to travel to Afghanistan and get into the schools to educate and release press conferences, they were able to work with UNICEF and other cooperations to have 1.4 millions children vaccinated. W.H.O. also gave word the Islamic Emirate would help. When it comes to children, it
